Welcome to November!

November, for me, is the month of Thanksgiving. My thoughts always turn towards counting my blessings and giving thanks for all that I have. I believe that what we focus on expands and grows in our life. Giving thanks for all the good that we have in our life, is a great way to attract more of the same!

Try this daily practice for the month of November: Every morning, write down 3 things that you are grateful for in your life. The items don't have to be big. They just need to be somehow important to you. Give it a try and see what happens to your attitude and energy level!
Accidental Weeds or Chosen Seeds?
Listen to Nola's recent talks in her Audio Archives

Last month, I spoke at Celebration Church in Oregon.

My message was entitled "Accidental Weeds or Chosen Seeds?" In this talk I explored the ability that each of us has to 'weed and feed' our minds as a way of transforming our lives. Our thoughts are powerful and creative seeds that have an amazing impact on how we see, interpret and interact with our world. Change the way you work with your mind, and watch your world transform!

You can listen to this talk, and others I've given in my audio archives at the link below:

Custom Reality

Everyone Lives in Their Own World

Last week as I was sitting at my computer, Facebooking, emailing and text messaging with my friends, I had a very interesting revelation.

As I sat in rainy, damp and cold Seattle, one of my friends was off on a cruise in Mexico. He recounted warm temperatures, sunshine and total relaxation.

Another friend in Colorado told of snowstorms that wouldn't let up and proposed that I come and join her to go sledding.

One of us was in snow, one in rain and the other in bright warm sunshine.

My friend in the snow is bundled up in warm clothing and allowing extra time to do the daily activities of life during a snow storm.

I'm carrying an umbrella, and making sure the things I tote with me each day are 'water proofed' so nothing gets damaged in the sideways rain of Seattle in the fall.

My cruising buddy was in shorts and flip flops, sipping cool drinks and being soothed by the sway of an ocean liner.

Each of us, at the very same moment inhabited an entirely different reality. Yet, we are all alive at the same moment in time. We all share a connection as friends. Our paths, however, follow different routes that allow for different vantage points.

Each of us, if we didn't know better, might believe that what we were experiencing was 'all there was' to life. For each of us, in that moment, there was no other reality. Yet, of course, there were actually an infinite number of 'other realities' going on all around us.

What struck me is that this is just as true of our 'inner worlds' as it is of our 'outer worlds.'
When we have a certain set of thoughts or feelings about what is happening to us, we might feel as though there is no other alternative. Yet, just as there are an infinite number of 'outer realities' unfolding at any point in time, we also have the chance and the choice to change our 'inner realities.'

We don't need to be a prisoner to our current reality. Things change. Dramas end. Feelings pass.

We can calm and direct our minds differently.  Just remember snow, rain, sun... all are possible. The same is true of our inner realm! Shift your perspective!
Inspired PathLiving Blog
Each week day, I use my blog to share my thoughts and spiritual perspective on this thing called life.

Here's what one reader recently shared with me:

"Nola, just a note to let you know how much I've been enjoying your blog each day! I love and relate to so many of them!

Your writings give me something special to read and consider each day, and I make it a point to start out with that before I hit the daily job search.

I find the stories and lessons stay with me, long after I've read them. Thank you for what you do!"

Inspirational Song
What Faith Can Do

Kutless

Music is a huge part of my personal and spiritual growth process. I use music every single day for motivation, inspiration, and as a tonic when I need comfort and encouragement.

A beautiful, uplifting song about faith, never giving up hope, and the possibility of a better tomorrow. I have played this song about 100 times since I bought it last month!

Here is an excerpt from the song lyrics:

Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning

Anyone can feel the ache
You think its more than you can take
But you are stronger, stronger than you know

Don't you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining

I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling

I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do

GIFTED HANDS

 Gifted Hands DVD Cover

Movies are one of my favorite ways to relax and inspire myself! Many movies have profound messages for us, embedded within the stories they tell.

Gifted Hands is the true story of Dr. Ben Carson, one of the world's most renowned neurosurgeons. He has performed some of the most amazing brain surgery the world has ever seen! In 1987 he performed the first successful surgery to separate Siamese twins, joined at the skull. His was the first such surgery where both twins survived. He has performed many additional surgeries that other surgeons have barely dared to consider. He became the head of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins at the age of 32. His successful career has literally transformed hundreds of lives that otherwise might have been ruined or lost.

Yet, his story began quite differently. He was born into poverty and was raised in the inner cities of Boston and Chicago. As an African American, being raised by a single mother he faced many, many obstacles. His mother was illiterate and suffered from serious mood issues and depression, yet she believed in Ben and his brother. She wanted them to have a life beyond their wildest imaginings. She pushed them to excel and would not accept excuses. She instilled in them a belief that anything was possible. Her guidance changed the trajectory of their young lives and the world has been truly blessed as a result.

This movie is simply a MUST SEE! You cannot fail to be inspired and motivated to 'see beyond what you can see!
