taylor

YMCA Summer Camp: kid tested & parent approved. Summer 2012 will mark the sixteenth consecutive year the YMCA has provided a day camp in Richmond County. The very first year began because a group of passionate parents who just wanted more for their children during the summer months. Today there are many reasons why YMCA Camp fills up with one hundred campers each day.

Weekly activities include opening and closing ceremonies, big games, songs, crafts, sports, field trips, swimming, contests and prizes. While YMCA Camp is for ages 5 to 12 years old, this summer, the Richmond County YMCA is also hosting a Teen Camp for ages 13-14.

Four days each week campers get to enjoy the pristine nature of Westmoreland State Park. Campers not only enjoy daily swimming but the state of the art enclosed water slide is a favorite. YMCA campers also make use of other state park amenities such as canoeing, kayaking, nature exploration and much more. Each week campers take a field trip, including Great Wolf Lodge, Cobble Stone Park and much more.

Registration is now open and spots are available. Parents are encouraged to sign up soon to guarantee enrollment. YMCA Summer Camp is held each day from 7 am to 6 pm at Richmond County Intermediate School. As with any YMCA program financial assistance is available through the YMCA Guardian Program. GIVE TIME IN A MEANINGFUL WAY

The YMCA is one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world.  On June 3rd, Richmond Multisports is asking for the YMCA to flex its volunteer muscles at the largest athletic event in the Northern Neck, the Naylor's Beach Triathlon.

"The event has challenged the YMCA to provide 100 volunteers and in doing so they will make a donation to the YMCA financial assistance program," says YMCA staff.  Volunteers are needed throughout the course to keep the over 600 athletes safe, hydrated and on track. Volunteer opportunities include kayakers, body markers, setup, food/awards, water stops, parking, registration or just wherever you might be needed.

Volunteers can register at the YMCA in Warsaw or by going to the volunteer tab at www.richmondmultisports.com. Be sure to identify your volunteer organization as the "YMCA."

RICHMOND COUNTY YMCA U15 WINS TOURNAMENT

Arsenal

The newly formed Richmond County Arsenal started their travel program just a few weeks ago.  The U15 team, which is a part of the Richmond County YMCA, played for the first time at the Middlesex YMCA Invitational Tournament.  The 8-team tournament featured teams from Mathews, Middlesex and West Point YMCAs as well as Parks & Recreation Departments in Gloucester and New Kent.

The Arsenal went undefeated in pool play winning: 8-0, 2-1 & 4-1.  In the championship game facing New Kent, the first half finished a 1-1 tie.  Richmond County pulled away in the second half finishing with a 5-1 win.  The Richmond County Arsenal are coached by Jerome Nelson and Brian Belfield.  The team plans to continue tournament play throughout the summer.

PRESCHOOL TO RECOGNIZE CLASS OF 2012

preschoolThe Richmond County YMCA is thrilled to successfully wrap up its fifth preschool year and graduating class. The 2011-2012 school year opened up to 2 ½ year olds for the first time, adding a new element to the preschool. This addition allowed for 35 students to participate, which also marked the fifth year the Preschool operated at full capacity. The 2012-2013 year is already full as well, but a waiting list has been established.

Graduation ceremonies will be held June 12 at 6 p.m. at Warsaw Baptist Church.
