PRESCHOOLERS ARE GRADUATING
Preschool gradThe Richmond County YMCA Preschool will graduate 19 in the class of 2011.

The YMCA Preschool began just four years ago in partnership with Warsaw Baptist Church. Together, we filled a need in the County where there was no full-time preschool option outside of those that qualified for Head Start. since 2007, the Y Preschool has enrolled over 120 children. Many doctors and education specialists believe that preschool education is not a luxury, but a necessity. "Children who attend high-quality preschool enter kindergarten with better pre-reading skills, richer vocabularies, and stronger basic math skills than those who do not," says W. Steven Barnett, PhD, director of the National Institute of Early Childhood Research.

June 14 will be the final day for the 19 children as they don the cap and gown and get ready for kindergarten. Sixteen, 3 year-olds will also receive recognition for completing the year.

The YMCA is opening a class for 2 1/2 year olds for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.
