How Can You Get Involved With YMCA Bright Beginnings
YMCA Bright Beginnings has been helping families in Richmond County prepare for the school year for the past 7 years. Each year eligible children travel with YMCA staff and volunteers to do some back to school shopping. Each child receives new school clothes as well as a new back pack and supplies. "This program has brought so much happiness to so many families that bear the burden of going back to school and the pressures it brings on families financially," explains Philip Belfield, YMCA Director. Bright Beginnings provides not just new clothes and supplies but that excitement that each child should have on that first day of school, so they too will get off on the right foot.
Get involved with YMCA Bright Beginnings
- Sponsor a child, $150 gives each child a full Bright Beginnings experience
- Be a volunteer shopper, we provide all the training
- Be a Backpack Buddy $20-$100 donation

Whelan's Marina Picks Up Name for 5K at Warsaw Fest
October 9th the YMCA will conduct the Whelan's Marina 5K at Warsaw Fest. The YMCA contacted the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce back in the winter about working together on 5K race. "The YMCA conducted a 5K several years ago; we feel it could add a lot of excitement to the annual day and hopefully bring out some more people to the event," explained Barbie Miles, YMCA Healthy & Wellness Director.
The race will start at the entrance of Rappahannock Community College and travel west on Rt.360 and back. A one mile kids fun-run will also take place. The YMCA is currently seeking additional sponsors for the race that anticipates a strong turnout.
For first time runners, the YMCA can help you train for the race. The YMCA 5K training team consists of experienced coaches and educational sessions with regard to nutrition and running technique. Registration for the Whelan's Marina 5K at Warsaw Fest begins August 9th.

Youth Super Sports
Building Winners for Life
At the YMCA, youth sports is as much about building
character as it is about learning sports skills.
YMCA Sports...Going Super!
Starting this fall the YMCA is introducing Youth Super Sports. This is the YMCA's new progressive youth sports program that combines the marvelous philosophy of past YMCA youth sports programs with new program concepts. Children learn character values as well as sports skills and tactics by incorporating fun and creative games during every practice. Our "games approach" sessions during each practice are designed to better prepare players for competitions.
There are 3 components to YMCA Super Sports
YMCA Rookies
Non-competitive, developmental program that teaches young players basic skills and strategies of the sport while incorporating our character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
YMCA Winners
Competitive, unique, values-based sports program for older boys and girls that develops skills and tactics while keeping our character values in play.
YMCA Champions

Journey to Freedom is an 8-week Christ-centered small group study designed to help you make a change in your life. A failure to lay a proper foundation for change is the number one reason people don't succeed in transforming their life. Journey to Freedom will help you build this critical foundation by providing tools, support and motivation you need to achieve significant and lasting change. Guided by Journey to Freedom's trained facilitators, you'll learn: · What is needed to make real change, and why your
other attempts have failed. · How to lay the foundation to solve any problem and
achieve any goal. · How to silence you inner critic and find your true
purpose. · The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic
motivation. "I never realized how many people there were that shared the same issues. It's so freeing to be with others and share our experiences."
