Youth Super Sports
Building Winners for Life
At the YMCA, youth sports is as much about building
character as it is about learning sports skills.
YMCA Sports...Going Super!
Starting this fall the YMCA is introducing Youth Super Sports. This is the YMCA's new progressive youth sports program that combines the marvelous philosophy of past YMCA youth sports programs with new program concepts. Children learn character values as well as sports skills and tactics by incorporating fun and creative games during every practice. Our "games approach" sessions during each practice are designed to better prepare players for competitions.
There are 3 components to YMCA Super Sports
YMCA Rookies
Non-competitive, developmental program that teaches young players basic skills and strategies of the sport while incorporating our character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
YMCA Winners
Competitive, unique, values-based sports program for older boys and girls that develops skills and tactics while keeping our character values in play.
YMCA Champions
Designed to motivate youngsters to strive for excellence.

"Complete Game" Softball Camp Has Big Plans
In just its first year, the YMCA Softball Camp has a great week (July 26-29) lined up. Current collegiate softball players such as Kori Oord of Galveston College and Sara Caudle of Roanoke College will give defensive instruction. Brandon Elliott, Head Coach at Virginia Wesleyan, will drop in along with former Lynchburg College catcher Kirstin Swank who will specialize in catching and hitting. "From playing strong defense to teaching the mental approach at the plate, pitching and catching and baserunning this camp will cover every aspect of the game," explains Barbie Miles. There are even plans for an end of the camp slip and slide.
Camp Directors are Barbie Miles, who was named ODAC Pitcher of the Year during her time at Lynchburg College, and Philip Belfield, who has coached fast-pitch softball at the U16, U18 and currently the U23 level. The camp registration deadline is July 9. See the Camp Flyer for more details. |
