HOME TEAM VISITS BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT

hays 2-5-10On Saturday the Home Team once again ventured forth, tools and first aid kits in hand. They undoubtedly met needy seniors' high expectations by performing miracles on any and all home repair problems encountered. This ongoing effort is gaining serious momentum declared Hays Englehart, a Home Team founder with Joe Bettencourt. They are looking for new recruits to continue the surge for this newly created local service offering. For the first time Acalanes H.S. is participating by virtue of the aforementioned Akoni joining our Merry Band of skilled (?) senior saviors.

ARTIST ENLISTMENT FOR CRUTCHES FOR AFRICA POSTER

Robbie Kunkel needs the assistance of an artist to put finishing touches on the poster to help secure crutches for this worthy project. Someone like Jim Brencic would be ideal!

SO, YOU WANT PROOF OF BRENCIC'S TALENT?

If you were there for Jim's expose yourself last week you saw enough to be convinced. If not, gaze upon this lovely photo of Jim and his latest creation for the Motorama fund raiser in June.

Yes indeed. The lad has certainly got it!

SPEAKING OF MOTORAMA

Little did Krysten Laine know what kind of reception she would receive when she approached the Lafayette Chief of Police to alert him to our upcoming extravaganza? She was taken aback when he admonished her that she had no idea what she was getting into. That this was going to be very successful and she should make arrangements with Bank of the West to deposit cash during the course of the day. He promised ample police on the job, and capped it off by volunteering the brand new Police Hemi for display at the show as a further symbol of support for our efforts.

How great was that! Another reason to wear a Rotary pin if you plan on speeding through our fair city. On second thought...NOT!

DISTRICT ASSEMBLY LOOMS LARGE

April 17 in Vallejo. Don Jenkins rose to the occasion to exhort new members, leadership and all other LSR stalwarts to especially attend this Assembly. Don asserted many Rotary rules have changed and there is much new information (e.g. matching grants) to be dispensed. Incoming Prez Thomas Peeks has been following up to help deliver meaningful participation this year.

BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES FIASCO

You could only emerge from this segment somewhat cross-eyed and thoroughly confused ... as this reporter shall proceed to confirm.

Tay Wheeler took the 5th regarding the date he joined Rotary. Brad Davis spouted off and subsequently was ordered to pay Tay's $10 fine. Prez Fazel was then fined $5 by Rich Shearer for not knowing, and being wrong, about Tay never having been a red badger. If this doesn't make sense to you, ask a newer member to explain. Chances are they don't get it either.

Then it was Steve Ware who owned up to Laurie's birthday, with a day spent in the City, seeing a movie, and finally dinner at Fleur de Lis. Steve said it was worth almost every penny. For some reason Jim Brencic was fined $5 for this? Ware may have gotten off Scott free.

Chuck Bove accused King John of missing both his wife's and son's birthday, but wasn't able to wiggle out of a $20 fee for being late in confessing.

By this time the frazzled Prez had lost all patience and control. So he called Joanne Luscher forward to retrieve the quarterly billing statement she forgot to take with her the previous week. Only $10 this time.

NO MINUTE WITH AYMERIC THIS WEEK

According to Paul Fillinger Aymeric was on a grand tour of the west with his family this week. They are back this weekend and Aymeric's parents are staying on another week. Paul asked forvolunteers to spend some time with Aymeric's folks this week. Pat Flaharty is taking them on a grand sight-seeing tour of San Francisco on Wednesday. Brad was quick to volunteer (read mooch) to go along. Aymeric's contact information for his parents is 786-5521 or aymericvdh@hotmail.com. Aymeric will be moving on to spend May with Agatha Sue and Cal Lee and then Glenda and Paul Fillinger in June to conclude his visit with us.

SKIP SHOWING FATIGUE IN CHASING WINE DONATIONS.

Only one new bottle turned up this morning for the wine barrel auction at Motorama. So Skip and Fazel turned to a last resort... cold cash. Anyone not yet contributing wine or $20 was asked to stand and dig out the dinero. Ware, Reichert and Riegg complied to the tune of $60, so all was not lost.

ROTARY GOLF SHIRTS AVAILABLE NEXT FRIDAY

Steve Ware was up and down like a yoyo today. This time to remind new recruits to order their new Rotary shirts by calling him at 283-2988 this week. He will bring them to the next meeting.

NEW BOCCE BALL DATE

Captain Bob Heinen confirmed a new date and time for the Bocce Ball challenge tournament. June 5th, 10 a.m. at the Waterfront Park in Martinez. Two teams have been recruited. We can field two more. Rich Shearer promises no injuries in this event. Does that mean he will not be there?

FLAHARTY DESPERATELY NEEDS BANNERS

As previously reported, Pat is off to Nigeria on April 17 to be a team member for polio vaccine dispersals to children. He pat 3-27anticipates at least six Rotary Club meetings while in country  and needs LSR banners for exchange. It was reliably reported that Reichert cleaned out the 1,000 or so banners we originally had in his relentless assault on world-wide Rotary Clubs. Don promised to look in his closet to see if a handful may still be in his possession.

SPEAKING OF BANNERS

King John did produce one LSR banner for members to sign to be taken back to Belgium with Aymeric's parents in exchange for the one they presented to us. There will be one more chance to sign before mom and dad leave for home on Saturday.

PROGRAM

Our speaker this morning, Naomi Tickle, has been an international spokesperson  and career consultant on the art of Personology (face reading) for 22 years.  Amazed by the accuracy of Personology readings, Naomi was motivated by the opportunity to help others better understand themselves and the people with whom they associate.

Naomi has recently appeared on CNN, NBC, BBC, Good Morning America and numerous television and radio interviews around the world. Information contained in her books is used as a tool for communications, understanding children, relationships, team building, sales, career guidance and personal development. She has given workshops and lectures at Norwich University, The World Trade Center, AT&T, IBM U.K., National Semiconductor, the Commonwealth Club and more.

According to Naomi's latest book, "What Makes People Tick & Why," the history of the study of the face began approximately 2,700 years ago. It was called Physiognomy and it has intrigued and puzzled scientists for years. The first known face readings were by the Chinese who used them for diagnosing medical conditions. Later the structural indicators of the face were used to determine personality types.

Fast forward to the 1930's when Los Angeles judge Edward Jones observed the behavior patterns of the people appearing before him in court and compared them to facial features. He became so fascinated by his observations that he dropped his judicial work and researched physiognomy, using works published by many notable authors on the subject.

Using established scientific principles Jones looked at 200 different face features and later narrowed the number down to 68. His studies included hand and body proportions. His research indicated an 88% accuracy for personality profiling and his system replaced many of the older methods for "typing" people. Thanks to Judge Jones, this "new" physiognomy became the modern day scientific approach to reading faces. He later termed this study Personology.

The bona-fides of Personology thus established, the fun began! Naomi launched into a discussion of just a few of the 68 characteristics, using lively audience participation to demonstrate her points regarding various personality indicators concerning the eyes, eyelids, the mouth, the nose, the forehead and the fingers. Much hilarity ensued!

You had better buy the book if you really want to get the full picture! But certain characteristics of the above listed components of the face describe everything from curious about detail, to just tell me the bottom line; defines perfectionists; warning signs for relational issues; lack of trust; concerns for finances; sequential thinkers vs. objective thinkers.

Naomi did a great job of interacting with and controlling our typically rowdy, sometimes raucous crowd. We really got into it. She warned us that we could get hooked on this stuff. But she pointed out this is much more than a fun parlor game. Personology is taken very seriously by many (as evidenced in her introduction) and has proven to be a good resource for vocational counseling in a host of significant career areas.

Naomi believes that Personology has equal validity with the Meyers Briggs personality indicators. What's more she considers it to be more reliably accurate for individuals, as opposed to Meyer Briggs, which lumps many people together in a few categories.

Thank you Naomi for a stimulating, delightful presentation!
