Dear
I was a dirt-poor graduate student at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, when I learned how a house party can make a poor person rich. Every Thursday evening, my friends and I gathered at the home of Mark and Kay Whitton, a firefighter and schoolteacher who "adopted" me like a son. Each guest brought a homemade dish to share. After a hearty meal, we played volleyball until nightfall, then told stories until the late hour forced us to say goodnight.
Those Thursdays at the Whitton home were like heaven. That's the difference family, friends, and home can make. That's the point of the World's Biggest House Party. Make your house party on October 3rd or 4th a celebration. Gather with the people you love and do the things you love to do. As you savor the richness of community and home, commit to make it possible for others to experience the same. Ask your guests to: · Volunteer with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in 2010 · Commit to mentor a Habitat for Humanity homeowner / partner family · Make a one-time cash contribution to support Habitat for Humanity home construction in southeast Michigan As hundreds of people gather in businesses, churches, and homes all over southeast Michigan on October 3 - 4, our collective generosity can multiply the blessings we enjoy and pass them on to others. That's the difference family, friends, and home can make.
Sincerely,
Brad Irwin
