HOST UPDATE
August 10, 2009
Dear

Thank you for your commitment to donate a party on October 3rd and/or 4th to build awareness, friendships, and funds to make the dream of homeownership come true for families in southeast Michigan.

As an official World's Biggest House Party host, you will receive this bi-weekly email newsletter to give you fresh ideas, news, and resources to make the most of your party. We want you and your guests to have a good time while making a life-changing difference for families caught in the vicious cycle of poverty housing.

A recent report from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that one in four Michigan rental households pay in excess of 50 percent of their monthly income on housing. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, no household's monthly housing budget should exceed 30 percent. This means hard-working Michigan families-many of them low-income-are in danger of losing their homes.

Thanks to Habitat for Humanity's donors and volunteers, these families can become owners of high-quality homes that normally cost far less per month than rental housing. Habitat for Humanity homeowners build equity and the money they save each month becomes an investment in better education, healthcare, and quality of life.

The World's Biggest House Party is a perfect way to celebrate family, friendship, and home while making homeownership-and all the blessings that come with it-available to more households in southeast Michigan.

Thank you for your support. Let's throw the World's Biggest House Party!

Party Idea of the Week
Wines of the World

WineBirmingham residents Dick and Donna Sutton will be out of town on October 3 and 4, so they hosted a World's Biggest House Party "appetizer" on July 31 at their home. The Suttons decked out their patio in Habitat for Humanity decor and gathered a wide selection of wines from around the world. A small crowed of family and friends sampled these "Wines of the World" and contributed $1,000 to support safe, decent, affordable housing in southeast Michigan. Thank you to Dick and Donna Sutton!

Did you know?
The facts on poverty housing

According to a 2008 study by the National Center on Family Homelessness, fair market rent for an average 2BR apartment in Michigan would require an hourly wage of at least $15. This is almost twice the federal minimum wage.
