7 December 2011
Dear Colleagues:
CMS is at it again. Once again radiologic services are on the chopping block for further cuts as a scapegoat to save Medicare's budget. (Apparently the cuts do not even save Medicare money but is simply being reallocated to other providers.) Does this sound familiar? Only this time, they are taking the unprecedented step of attacking our professional fees, imposing a 25% cut on the professional component for certain imaging services on contiguous body parts. As you can imagine this will be a dramatic hit on our income especially for those of us who depend solely on professional fees. The ACR has helped formulate a bi-partisan bill, HR 3269 (The Diagnostic Imaging Services Access Protection Act of 2011), in an attempt to thwart this attack on our livelihood by CMS. Many of you have supported generously in the past to RADPAC so that it can continue to work on your behalf to educate and influence our Congressional leaders. At this critical time, as the advisor to RADPAC for California, I want to urge you to renew your contribution to RADPAC and encourage your colleagues to do the same. This fight is ongoing as radiology will continue for the foreseeable future to be on the frontlines for further cuts as our economy struggles to get back on its feet.
Here is some recent RADPAC news:
- RADPAC ranks as the 2nd largest health professional PAC in contributions made to federal candidates and Members of Congress
- RADPAC recently held a successful fundraiser at RSNA (raising $30,000) for Rep. Kevin McCarthy who has made a commitment to help with passage of HR 3269
- RADPAC has been instrumental in procuring support for HR 3269 which now has almost 100 co-sponsors
Your ongoing support is vital for RADPAC to continue to work on your behalf. If you have already contributed to RADPAC for 2011, please accept my sincerest gratitude on behalf of RADPAC and I hope you will consider renewing your support early in 2012.
Sincerely,
Mark Yeh, MD
