The inaugural Ride United event took place on Thursday, September 6. There were a total of 31 participants, 18 riders signed up for the full 100 miles on both trails, while 13 committed to 50 miles. Ride United participants raised approximately $13,000+ for United Way's health initiatives with the help of major sponsors DTE Energy Foundation, Meijer Inc., Priority Health, and Fifth Third Bank.

UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN
KICK-OFF RESULTS
United Way's campaign kick-off took place at DTE Energy's Muskegon County office on Thursday, September 6. Muskegon Campaign chair, Brad Hilleary shared the campaign theme "There's No Place Like Home" and revealed that United Way has raised $235,989 from its Muskegon County "pacesetter" workplaces, which began collecting contributions from employees several weeks before other companies. This year's goal is to raise $2.85 million in Muskegon County, $130,000 in Newaygo County and $120,000 in Oceana County.

Any new gift of $50 or more, or any gift that has been increased from the previous year by $50, automatically qualifies you to be entered in the drawing for a 2013 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle! In order to be included in this sweepstakes, your pledge form or completed entry form must be received at the United Way office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. The winner will be announced on December 5 during the Muskegon campaign finale.

Thursday, September 20: Grape Escape at the Holiday Inn Muskegon Harbor at 6 p.m. Sample Michigan wines and microbrews crafted in Michigan. There will also be delicious food from hometown restaurants and a silent auction. Proceeds from this event will help support the work of Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity and help fund local Rotary projects.

Tuesday, October 2: Goodwill Industries of West Michigan and Michigan Works! are offering a free, informational luncheon seminar to area businesses from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Michigan Works! Norton site (950 W. Norton Ave., Suite C). Goodwill and Michigan Works! to Host a "Lunch & Learn" for employers Aimed at human resources staff, general managers, business owners, CEOs, purchase and plant managers - the event will showcase job-training reimbursement programs, temporary employment solutions, tax-saving programs, free recruitment and screening services, and more.
