19th ANNUAL DAY OF CARING
Friday, September 7, 2012
Join United Way and hundreds of community volunteers as we kick off the 2012 campaign, rain or shine, with our annual Day of Caring! Community renovation projects include Wesley Park in Muskegon Township and Rotary Park next to Heritage Landing in downtown Muskegon.

8:00 - 9:00 a.m., pancake breakfast provided by the Muskegon Lions Club, served at Wesley Park.
8:30 - 9:30 a.m., registration at each site.
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Day of Caring projects.
Noon, free lunch provided by Plumb's at both sites.
1:00 - 3:00 p.m., complete Day of Caring projects.

RIDE UNITED - RIDERS WANTED!
50 & 100 mile bike ride to benefit United Way,
sponsored by DTE Energy, Meijer & Priority Health
An opportunity to challenge yourself and support your community on Thursday, September 6. This event benefits United Way of the Lakeshore in Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana counties.
50 Mile Route: Riders willing to participate in the 50 mile tour start at the DTE Energy building located at 2359 Olthoff Drive, Muskegon. Riders will follow the Musketawa Trail to Marne, looping back and ending in unison with the 100 mile riders at the DTE Energy Building. Starting time estimated to be 12/12:30 p.m.
100 Mile Route: Start at the Hart-Montague Trail in Hart and end at the DTE Energy building located at 2359 Olthoff Drive, Muskegon. Starting time is 8 a.m.

United Way of the Lakeshore announces a special thank you sweepstakes for the 2012 campaign. Any new gift of $50 or more, or any gift that has been increased from the previous year by $50, automatically qualifies you to be entered in the drawing for a 2013 Harley Davidson softail motorcycle! In order to be included in this raffle, your pledge form or completed entry form must be received at the United Way office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. The winner will be announced on December 5 during the Muskegon campaign finale.

Tuesday, August 7: CarFit is designed to assist senior drivers in adapting themselves and their vehicles in a way that maximizes their control of the vehicle as well as offering the most protection in the event of a crash. You are eligible to participate if you are a licensed driver age 65 and older that owns a registered vehicle. Appointments are necessary and are limited so please call 1-877-926-8300 by August 3 to reserve your spot.
Saturday, August 11: The Father Jack Foundation presents A BOOT SCOOTIN' DINNER DANCE at Hampton Green Farm, 5440 E. Farr Rd, Fruitport. Social hour and tours at 5:30 p.m., dinner and horse show at 6:30 p.m., dancing and entertainment at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds to benefit the Father Jack Foundation's outreach to help those in need. Saturday, August 18: Inaugural Cannon-Muskegon & United Way Golf Outing at Chase Hammond Golf Club. 1 p.m. check-in, 2 p.m. shot-gun start. 18 holes of golf with cart, 4 person scramble, open to everyone, dinner included, free soft drinks and water, cash bar, $60 per person or $240 per team. VOLUNTEER!!!
Michigan Irish Music Festival is seeking a crew of 4-6 people to serve as Powder Room Technicians during the 2012 event, which is September 14-16. These volunteers refill paper towels, wipe down sinks, clean mirrors and restock supplies. Volunteers would take a 3-hour shift and would have plenty of time to watch music.

LAKESHORE BACKPACKS FOR KIDS
Get your FREE back-to-school backpack filled with school supplies! There will be food, fun, and hair cuts (activities may vary at each site). Parents must be with children and present their ID.

WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP NETWORK

WLN members shared an evening with friends and family at Hampton Green Farm. This was one of two social events to be held this year. Dinner, a dressage show and a tour of the barns was enjoyed by everyone. The Salvation Army and Catholic Charities received donations for their pantries.
