Graham's Gab The season is upon us. At the office it feels like we are plunging down the first set of a raging river, maybe catching a few eddies on the way for a breath. The calm pool at the end is reached some time in early July. If it takes a while to get a response from an email, I apologize in advance; there is a backlog. For fastest response, please call the office 1-888-252-6292. Thank you for your patience. I am encouraged to see plenty of skill and instructor training courses running this spring - including new Style Canoeing and Canoe Tripping, a resurgence in River Kayaking, and tons of SUP courses. Since we last talked, I've attended an Executive Education Training week on Governance for Non-Profits at Queen's University, and attended Transport Canada's Canadian Marine Advisory Council (CMAC - Rec Boating Standing Committee) and National Recreational Boating Advisory Council (NRBAC) meetings in Ottawa. You can read about some of the recommendations on SUP PFD use by Transport Canada and in an article on PaddlingInstructor.com. I am also just back from the Atlantic Paddling Symposium last weekend, attended by coaches and participants from California, Washington, Boston, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. This was truly a gathering of North America's paddling community. So until next time, stay in tight and stay upright. Graham Ketcheson

ACA Sugar Island Available to PC Members for 2012 Season
|
| | 1 minute Sugar Island Camping Weekend, July 2011 |
The Trustees of the American Canoe Association, Sugar Island have once again extended access of $10 camping fees per person for canoe/kayak camping on the island. This 40 acre island is a jewel among the thousand Islands. It offers primitive camping, outhouses, plenty of hiking trails, and a sand beach near the main dock for swimming.
I camped there with my family and friends last summer and would highly recommend going if you are in the eastern Ontario neighbourhood this season. (View my short video at right.)
For more information or to book, please contact the PC Office.
