Canoe Canada 2012 Project: Sending Canadian youth on environmental education canoe-trips. Learn More...

bGraham

Graham's Gab

Well as the memory of summer swimming, paddling and sailing trips fade away, it's time,  well... to do more paddling!  I believe fall is almost as nice for better than summer.  I'm now getting back into sea kayaking which I haven't done since June and acquiring a SUP board.  I've got to get myself conditioned this fall for teaching a week long SK Level 2 Instructor course mid October on Georgian Bay.  This program will also coincide with the annual Georgian Bay Storm Gathering.  Many of the hardiest kayakers come from all over Ontario for one last organized paddling event of the year before the waters get really chilly.  Should be fun.

This Sunday Sept 25, was the Ottawa RiverKeeper Paddles UP! Event.  This day celebrates the Ottawa River Keepers ongoing Great River Project along with World Rivers Day. Folks were encouraged to bring their own canoe or kayak (or SUP) and join the flotilla from Victoria Island to Kettle Island, where they will wish the Great River Project team 'bonne voyage' on their next journey to Montreal. Hope some Ottawa region PC members were able join in the fun.

Stay upright on the water,

Graham Ketcheson

Canoe Canada 2012 with Canadian Canoe Foundation, CPAWS, CHRS and Paddle Canada

During the summer of 2012, the Canadian Canoe Foundation (CCF) will be working with a wide-host of organizations in order to run a youth canoe trip in every Canadian province and territory!  Partners on these environmental learning adventures will include: Paddle Canada's (PC) canoeing associations, the Canadian Heritage River Systems (CHRS) and Chapters of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS).

The project, titled Canoe Canada 2012 will culminate in a delegation of CCF youth participants attending the 7th Canadian River Heritage Conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (June 15-19th, 2013).

And finally....  the ACA Journal of Paddlesports Education

The American Canoe Association recently launched a new website called The Journal of Paddlesports Education.  This site is used as a tool for ACA instructors, trainers and educators to share their vast wealth of knowledge and experience in paddlesports education and for all instructors to exchange ideas on the wide array of topics that influence teaching in our sports. ACA members are invited to submit their own ideas.

I would encourage PC instructors to use this as a teaching resource.  After all the ACA has posted it publicly.  Perhaps PC will develop it's own site someday... until then please feel free to share your teaching thoughts, lessons with our Strategic Partner PaddlingInstructor.com
