Fall paddling is at it's best right now! The fall colours are just starting to pop. I have just returned from a fabulous sunny warm weather family canoe camping weekend in Frontenac Provincial Park just north of Kingston. Meanwhile, sea kayakers and surfers in the Atlantic provinces, are having fun post hurricane Igor with huge seas (6 to 8 meters) along the east coast of Newfoundland. The whitewater paddlers will be happy too with the rivers that have swelled. The downside, is all the damage. Our thoughts are with those who lost homes, roads, properties in Newfoundland. Our paddlingcanda.com site was down this morning due to power outages there.
I've just returned from a day in Ottawa for a Paddle For Peace Celebration with Algonquin Elder William Commanda - part of Sept 21st United Nations International Day of Peace. The event was held on Victoria Island on the Ottawa River, in the shadow of the Parliament buildings. Our own Kirk Whipper, Jay Morrison (environment chairperson), and PC Patron Becky Mason (got to paddle a canoe in the ceremony with Becky - way cool!) were all there among many other very interesting people and presenters. Read more about this in my next article of the fall issue of Kanawa.
May your paddle always pull water, peacefully.

Paying your Course Invoices by Cheque A reminder to those who have been paying their course invoices by cheque. Save some trees and simply include a course ID reference on the chq. or a note attached (no need to send print outs of your invoices). Invoices are online for you to see / lookup anytime.
Also when paying multiple course invoices, please, when possible, total them and send me one cheque for the full amount (don't forget to list all course ID's you are paying). Many organizations send me multiple chqs (one per course) for a months worth of courses. No need if your accounting department can handle that request. Thanks for your help. |
Thanks for reading. Until next month, keep your stick in the water...
