News Item Regarding the Sea Kayak Guiding Program
Early in 2009 the SK PDC responded to a motion of the Board
to look into the opportunities for Paddle Canada to develop a sea kayak guiding
program. A three person sub-committee, Chaired by Michael Pardy, was created.
In consultation with other guiding associations across Canada, considerable
progress was made on the development of a program structure and curriculum
outlines. However the committee was unable to conclude with a definitive
curriculum or a broad-based consensus on a structure for a guiding program.
With my thanks and very great appreciation of the considerable amount of good
work, the guiding sub-committee has been excused from their
responsibilities. It is probable
that the sea kayak PDC would in future revisit the opportunity for a nationally
based sea kayak guiding program.
I would like to thank the members of this committee for
their patience and diligence throughout the past year.
Doug Alderson
PC SK PDC, chairman.
