Greetings!

A message to all Instructors from the Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Program Development Committee.

The New 2010 SK Program Manual is now available!  Thanks to the SK PDC  and all who commented and contributed.  Please download the newest version of the SK Manual for 2010

The Manual is always available by logging in and accessing Instructor Services on the PC web page.

In response to advice coming in from Instructors and paddlers across Canada the SK PDC continues to improve the program manual. Changes for 2010 are as follows:
  • Experience as an Assistant or Apprentice is included as credit to maintain instructor certification. page 77
  • The provision to enroll in an Instructor course prior to obtaining the required skill certification is limited to the Lv1 Instructor course.  page 9
  • Corrected grammar, spelling and vocabulary.
A reminder to renew your instructor membership for 2010. ( All instructor memberships expired Dec. 31/09) You will need to do this to gain access to the "Instructor Services' area of your account which has the new SK Manual, your courses, past, present and future and many other instructor admin features.    Login into your account now!

News Item Regarding the Sea Kayak Guiding Program

Early in 2009 the SK PDC responded to a motion of the Board to look into the opportunities for Paddle Canada to develop a sea kayak guiding program. A three person sub-committee, Chaired by Michael Pardy, was created. In consultation with other guiding associations across Canada, considerable progress was made on the development of a program structure and curriculum outlines. However the committee was unable to conclude with a definitive curriculum or a broad-based consensus on a structure for a guiding program.  With my thanks and very great appreciation of the considerable amount of good work, the guiding sub-committee has been excused from their responsibilities.  It is probable that the sea kayak PDC would in future revisit the opportunity for a nationally based sea kayak guiding program.

I would like to thank the members of this committee for their patience and diligence throughout the past year.

Doug Alderson
PC SK PDC, chairman.
