Under the leadership and expertise of some of Canada's top instructors, our mandate is to help paddlers explore current developments in paddling and to celebrate our Canadian Paddling Heritage. A variety of on-water and classroom sessions will focus on the various paddling disciplines including sea kayaking, river kayaking and canoeing.
 
We hope you can join us for a weekend of skill development, prefessional instructor development, stories and adventures, entertainment, paddling, news and information and, most importantly, fun.

BECKY MASON
 
Becky Mason is the daughter of canoe icon Bill Mason. She shares her family's passion for canoeing and the environment through her Classic Solo canoe courses, as well as her painting, writing, environmental activism, filmmaking and speaking projects.
 
Along with starting her Classic Solo canoeing course 21 years ago Becky has contributed to several canoeing and environmental books including a foreword for the book Paddling the Boreal Forest, Rediscovering A.P. Low, a chapter for The Canoe in Canadian Culture, writing and painting images for Rendezvous with the Wild The Boreal Forest and produced an award-winning video entitled Classic Solo Canoeing.
 
WATERSHED MOMENTS: Memorable Rivers I've Paddled
WATERSHED MOMENTS highlights Becky's life in and around canoes and her passion for them. She will take you on a journey to the rivers, lakes of her favourite boreal forest rivers and share her adventures and her love for these places. You will also see the land through an artist's eye as Becky recounts how canoeing and the wilderness can nourish the creative soul and continue to inspire her as a visual artist.  Her slide show focus is a thought provoking mix of story telling, canoe lore, environmental loves and concerns and a few thoughts on what the future of the Paddle Canada new paddle program holds for us.
 
ADVANCED SOLO CANOEING
Becky Mason and her husband Reid McLachlan make a winning flatwater teaching team. Efficient solo paddling will be raised a notch while teaching you Canadian heritage strokes and you will be able to enjoy learning how these strokes have evolved into our manouevers of today.

Mason and McLachlan's aim is to make your stroke the most efficient it can be so that all of the momentum of the canoe is utilized. They teach you the placement of the blade and where timing is the key to accomplishing a seamless series of strokes. Mason and McLachlan make a superb team, friendly, funny and skilled instructors.
 
Content covered: review of Basic Solo plus a selection of these flatwater solo paddling strokes: Canadian, Indian, Box, Bow Jam & Cut, Circle, Low Brace Turn and Sculling Draw, High Brace sideslip, One-Hand Pry, Running Pry Sideslip, Pitch, Cross Bow Draw, Reverse Sculling, Low Circle, Compound, Northwoods. Becky has been developing her unique Classic Solo Canoeing course for the past 21 years. This will be a opportunity to pick up some handy instructor tips and some tried and true teaching methods that aid in creating a friendly safe teaching environment for participants.
