Greetings!
We would like to let you know that our plan is to publish and send the eMatrimony newsletter once a month, around the third Tuesday of the month, if possible.
That means that if you have something to share with the greater WWME community, please send it to us during the second week of the month. We will do our best to get it published with the next eMatrimony.
Love,
Joe & Linda Oppelt

Introducing:
The Canadian National Ecclesial Team
Eric, Lupita and Fr. John
 |
Eric & Lupita have been married for 31 years and live on the West Coast of Canada in Vancouver B.C. . Eric was born and raised in Vancouver. Lupita was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico; she is an identical twin. They met while Lupita was on a student exchange in Vancouver and were married a year latter in Mazatlan, Mexico. They have 2 sons, Ryan (29) and Tyler (26). Lupita is a retired preschool Montessori teacher still substituting once in while. Eric is a partner in an Electrical Construction company, not retired yet, but starting to think about it. In July 1987, they attended their WWME Weekend and have been involved with the movement ever since. Over the years they have held the leadership positions of: Team Couple, Unit and County Coordinators in Vancouver; District 6 Coordinators; and are now in their second year as Canadian National Leaders.
Fr. John was born in Georgetown, Guyana on August 28th 1956. Fr. John has 3 brothers and 5 sisters in his family. He celebrated his 25th anniversary of ordination in July 2009. He is a Diocesan priest and the administrator of the Georgetown Cathedral, as well as, Vicar General of the Diocese. Fr. John made his WWME weekend in September of 2003 and has been involved in WWME since that time. He started as a County Priest, then became part of the District 3 Ecclesial Team before joining us as part of the Canadian National Ecclesial Team.
WWME in Canada
Canada is divided into Districts instead of Sections. There are 6 Districts across Canada.
-
District 1 consists of Atlantic Canada which includes the Provinces of: Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Labrador and Newfoundland.
Our Districts are divided into Counties which would be the equivalent to the Areas in the United States.
Eric and Lupita send the message that, "One of our greatest joys is the feeling of excitement within the Canadian WWME movement due to the merging of the United States and Canada to become the new North American Secretariat. Our greatest sorrows are: the lack of Priests getting involved in WWME and the struggle to keep encountered couples involved in our beloved movement."

"We are Mario & Olga Lopez, & Fr. Joe DiMauro,
Recently we were asked to receive the baton from Norm and Judy Hansen and Fr. Bernie Steiner as the new North American Ecclesial Team for World Marriage Day.

Stellar Couple: Tom & Emille Sandin, Section 4
Tom and Emilie have selflessly been the North Carolina Registration couple for over 20 years! They actively invite couples for weekends as well as follow up on every request for information about WWME that comes to them. They answer questions and calm anxious perspective couples fears should they voice any in deciding to register for a weekend. When registering couples they personally contact each couple by telephone to make sure they have all of the information they need to plan for an enriching weekend. They are long time members of their Share Circle and offer insightful and thought provoking presentations from their continuing study of spiritual authors on the subject of relationship and marriage. They truly live the WWME lifestyle and not just fill registration rosters. |

Patricia & Doriano Baisi. | Enrichment Reflection: "Food For Love"
Marriage Encounter is about relationship: Relationship with our spouse; Relationship with God; Relationship with our community. Relationship is built on a foundation of trust. But what starts a relationship? When do we begin to trust? What makes a relationship grow?
When we recognize traits in another person that attracts us to them, we ignite the desire for relationship. Whether a relationship develops or not requires action on our part. We need to initiate further interaction with the other person to investigate our first impressions and to inquire further into their personality and values. As we gain knowledge and understanding of the other person, we are able to assess the level of trust we can place in that individual. Once the trust is established, we are inclined to enter into a deeper relationship.
The most common way of beginning a relationship is to sit down to eat with the other person. When you met your spouse, one of your first dates would probably have involved eating together. "Let's get together for a coffee." "Would you like to go out for lunch (or dinner)?" As you get to know the other person over a meal, the trust begins to grow. Even Jesus recognized the significance of food in building relationships. There are many stories in the Bible that recount Jesus sitting down to eat or providing food for people and, of course, Holy Communion is the most significant meal we share.
A community, like a marriage, is built on relationship -- built on trust. We trust that we share the same values and vision with the other people in that community. Within a community, sitting down to share a meal is equally as important as with individual relationships. It allows us to build those individual relationships that bind a community together. A meal provides a social atmosphere that allows us to reaffirm our original attractions and judgements of the community. This social interaction makes us feel like a valued member of the community where people welcome and accept us.
Food is more than just sustenance for the body. Food celebrates life and love and relationships. Celebrate with someone today!
10/10 Questions:
1) When was the last time your community sat down socially to eat a meal together? At that meal, did you start building a new relationship with someone? How do I feel about my answer?
2) When was the last time you, personally, invited a couple from your community to eat with you, either at home or at a restaurant? How do I feel about my answer? . Patricia and Doriano are the Canadian editors of eMatrimony. |
Follow-up: Reflections for Scripture Dialogue & Personal Prayer
As we announced in the last newsletter, Fr. Paul Oborny has written a booklet of dialogue reflections. Response has been overwhelming. We ran out of books within a few days, and we're working on our third shipment of books from Fr. Paul.
Fr. Paul has made this book available to couples at no cost. You can request copies via your ematrimony editors. It took us some time to find the most cost effective shipping method, but we have it worked out now. Our cost for shipping books un the USA is $1.25 per book, or $0.50 per book for bulk purchases (5 or more.) Out of the country will cost more, and we have to figure it out on a case by case basis. You can send a check to us: Joe and Linda Oppelt 5110 Escapardo Way Colorado Springs, CO 80917 We can also take PayPal. Contact Joe for details. PayPal does a nice (and inexpensive) job at converting currency, so this is an economical way for overseas couples to cover the shipping costs. Thanks and Happy Dialoguing!.
