Stellar Communities
The photo below was submitted by Anne and Joe Stottman. It was taken on the farm of John and Mary Ann Vanderveer in Springfield, Kentucky. "Kentucky has reintroduced quilt square painting on barns, and John and Mary Ann decided to draw up and submit a Marriage Encounter quilt square. It was accepted! They then had to paint it per the State's specifications, on their barn...They are our kind hosts of a fall outing every year for our community, and the couple who painted the designed and painted the quilt piece on their barn."
Even though not formally nominated as a "stellar community" this photo shows what you can do with some imagination and a dream!
Springfield (MA) area share group - (New) Section 20 This share group formed seven years ago with three couples who had been on the same WWME weekend. They have wholeheartedly received newly encountered couples off of WWME weekends since, doubling their size, in a region of the state which has seen a decline in active share groups. They most recently supported the World Marriage Day TV mass, Chalice of Salvation, in the Springfield diocese. They courageously share their beautiful dialogue letters before sharing the fruits of their verbal dialogue to encourage one another in their dialoguing lifestyle. Their contagious good humor as a group is gentle, welcoming and a LOT of FUN! They are creative in celebrating their marriages with couple fun like camping and pool parties...always with a dialogue question. They regularly volunteer as a group to support the Toys for Tots program each year. They have truly embraced and expanded the mission of WWME to change the world through the power of their love! Bridgewater (MA) Share Group - (New) Section 20 The Spirit is truly alive in the Bridgewater area! The Bridgewater, MA share group was more recently formed when 12 couples were invited by Fr. Carlos Kim from his parish of St. Thomas Aquinas to come on the WWME weekend he was presenting. They all took him up on his offer! After the weekend they formed a vibrant sharing group which has almost tripled in size! These lovers accomplished this by enthusiastically serving as prayer couples drawing their special assigned couple into their group after the WWME weekend. They have also hosted WWME enrichments and inviting events like romance evenings. As individual sacraments, these couples remain heavily involved in their parish activities as well. They are truly "living their love large" for the sake of God's church! WWME Community of Columbus, OH - Section 6 Our community has been dedicated, committed to the mission and truly disciples of Christ. Always hard working, taking every task and carefully caring it through to the end, they are innovative, smart, courageous and inspiring. They are more than couples just getting by in the world, they are couples transforming their church, neighborhoods, families and ultimately changing our world! Some highlights: Over 7,000 school flyers are distributed several times a year They also work closely with the Marriage and Family Life Office representing WWME on the diocesan level. Fr. Pete Gideon has been a Presenting Priest for over 30 years and is now part of the Section 6 Ecclesial Team with Steve & Yvonne Ray. We have a Parish Enrichment program, at the local parishes We print and distribute mini inviting DVD's for the Columbus area Our Community writes several articles every year for our Catholic Times Newspaper Our newsletter is published 4 times a year, we also publish a newlyweds addition for all newly encountered couples. They also handle the WMD Dance celebration every year. We couldn't have asked for a better community of friends to share this journey with, it has been an honor to serve with them for the past two years; Columbus Lovers are such a sign of God's love in the world. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him Psalms 37: 7 The Stellar Community of Chadds Ford, PA - Section 3 The Chadds Ford Worldwide Marriage Encounter Community of Chadds Ford, Pa is rooted in a long history of love. Established in the early 70's, the group currently has membership of 20+ active couples and a priest. It is diverse in age, length of marriage and years of involvement in the movement. Involvement ranges from 1 to 35 years. We call our monthly gatherings "Image" because we see it as an image of our original Marriage Encounter Weekend. The structure of the evening involves a workshopped presentation, dialogue, sharing, sharing of Marriage Encounter business and news followed by a social conclusion. We believe that the group has remained strong because of its consistent commitment to the principles of "FAMIS". That commitment is exemplified in many ways. Fun is a constant. Just being together brings joy to our hearts. Some of the FUN activities we enjoy are: -
Sponsoring of our annual DDD (Dinner, Dialogue, Dancing) event to support area community couples
-
Family night at a local rodeo
-
An annual family day at Cape May beach followed by Image for couples
-
Halloween family gathering
Accountability is critical. We care for one another. We support one another in the following ways: -
We have a 3 year commitment to the production of the Marriage Encounter calendar for our North American family. We are about to complete that commitment with the production of the 2011 calendar. This has required intense preparation through meetings (always including children) design and content, especially choosing dialogue questions for the year. Each couple was required to select dialogue questions for a particular month. As a labor of love, couples have given generously of their time and talent to produce a calendar of unique quality.
-
We support one another's dialogue
-
We require couples to attend workshops as preparation for each month's Image presentation
Mission to Worldwide Marriage Encounter is an ongoing and consistent endeavor. It is accomplished in the following ways: Intimacy keeps us connected and close. We believe we are intimate in the following loving ways: - We have supported one another for Walks and Runs for the Cures of breast cancer, MS and diabetes.
- We have developed a sense of intimacy and caring during Specialness Week when a secret couple is chosen for a week of treats, love, and dialogue, concluded at Image with the revelation of our angel couple.
Spirituality - Our gatherings always begin with prayer and mention of special intentions.
- Our community has raised funds and provided gifts for Christmas families for many years.
- There is a sincere and prayerful caring for the needs of all in our community.
SRSSR (Sacramento, Reno. Stockton, Santa Rosa) - Section 11
This circle has single-handedly supported a section board meeting. Their couples have been involved in community enrichments as presenters. Their latest loving task was to host the seminarian Christmas dinner in December. The seminarians meet as a group 2x/year, and this was the first time that another group hosted them. Usually, the diocese secretaries and their husbands do the meal, prep & clean-up, but this year they actually got to sit down and enjoy the meal as these couples served them shrimp cocktail, tamales, & dessert. Fr. Chuck Kelly was full of praise for the efforts of this group. Bishop Soto (who couldn't stay away from the shrimp "cocktail") and Bishop Emeritus Weigand were pleasantly surprised and also appreciative. Decorations, service and clean-up, this circle did everything. They are challenging other circles to step up and host next year's dinner to continue to show our support for the vocation of priesthood.
