New US Ecclesial Team!
Dearest lovers,
Happy New Year to you all! May this year be filled with the joy of
living God's Desire for us as we each strive to live intimately in our
relationships!
It is with much excitement and a
bit of nervousness that we begin our journey as your United States Ecclesial
team. Though we were selected in late
October, in many ways it does not yet seem real. Still when we picture so many of you whom we
have been privileged to meet along this wonderful journey, we are reminded of why
we said 'yes' to being open to the process of leadership. It is indeed to all of you who are striving
to live in loving relationship with each other, with your communities, your
church and the world that we gave our 'yes' in October and continue to give our
'yes' to you today.
We'd like to take a moment to
introduce ourselves. We, ScottandKaren,
have been married for 25 years. We have four children and three
grandchildren. We made our weekend in 1993
in Springfield, Illinois and now live in Waterloo, Illinois which is just
across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.
Karen grew up in St. Louis, and Scott grew up in Marseilles, IL, which
is about four hours north of where we now live.
We are members of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, IL and
members of the Waterloo/Columbia/Arnold WWME community.
I, Fr. Tom, have been serving
God's people as a Divine Word Missionary for 40 years. I was born and
raised in Chicago. My assignments have been in Washington, DC; Trenton,
NJ; Techny, Illinois near Chicago and for the past 7 years in Duxbury,
MA. I made my Weekend in 1986 in Joliet, IL and was active in Joliet
until moving to Duxbury. I was a member of the US Board for three years
representing Section 1 until my selection to USET in October.
While the three of us have worked
together in various capacities over the years, this is the first time we are
serving together in leadership. It is
wonderful to get to know each other in a new way as we spend time sharing our
feelings with each other in trialogue.
Because we live so many miles apart we are using the telephone and now
the new venue of Skype to trialogue. Skype
at least allows us to see each via computer and that is adding a whole new
dimension to our long distance relationship.
As we write this letter to you,
we are celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He had a dream that changed the lives of so
many in our country. The three of us
also have a dream. We dream of a world
where husbands and wives love each other as Christ loves us. We dream of a world where priests love all of
God's people and all of God's people love our priests. We dream of a world where living in loving
relationship is more important than the cars we drive, the number of
technological gadgets we own or the amount of money sitting in our bank
accounts. But we know that dreams
without action stay dreams; and action without dreams lack passion. We invite you to dream with us over the next two
years and help put those dreams into action.
We would love to hear from you and have you share your dreams with us
and how you are realizing those dreams in your corner of the world. Together we can and we will make a difference
in our world. And the world will be
better for this!
With our love,
ScottandKaren & Fr. Tom
