Dear eMatrimony Subscriber,
eMatrimony has some new faces and names, beginning with three new editors! First and foremost, please join us in thanking Jon and Hilary Olson, former eMatriomony
editors, for their service to Marriage Encounter in that capacity. They
have done much of the groundwork to make this newsletter what it is today,
and we appreciate their time and effort.
Hi! We're Joe & Linda Oppelt, We had planned to send this out in December, but Joe just fell on some ice and ruptured his
quad tendon, which required surgery to fix. He is now anxiously awaiting the time when he can start on his rehab...
We have recently agreed to become editors of eMatrimony, the
e-newsletter for Worldwide Marriage Encounter. We thought we should give you
our vital statistics, and tell you a bit about ourselves.
Both cradle Catholics, we met in college in Massachusetts,
and got married on June 14, 1980, in Lowell, MA. We quickly had three children,
and in Feb. 1987 we attended our Marriage Encounter weekend in Boston. Happily,
the weekend literally gave us our marriage back, and our fourth child was born
about a year later. About a year after that we moved our young family to
Colorado Springs, mostly for economic reasons.
We have held several loving tasks for Marriage Encounter,
both in the northeast and in Colorado. We've been presenting team, World
Marriage Day coordinators, "Dream & Action" team, prayer couple
coordinators, registration couple, and most recently editors for the Southern
Colorado Marriage Encounter "Loveletter". Marriage is a passion for us - not
just our marriage, but others' as well. We have seen firsthand what divorce
does, not just among family, but also among previously strong ME couples. We
believe that couples are under attack - sometimes the most visible couples
experience the worst attacks, because it's a victory for the devil when marriages fail.
Other things about us: Joe works in the computer industry,
and Linda currently works in the marketing department of a small manufacturing
company. Besides ME, we are active in our parish, we enjoy lap swimming and
gardening, and love spending time with our two young grandsons. Linda is also
working towards a Masters in Theology through Franciscan University Distance
Learning. We're looking forward to our first trip overseas, to celebrate our 30th
Anniversary with a trip to Italy in May. (Hopefully Joe's injury will be all
healed by then!)
Please send us your stories - what's happening in your communities that you'd like to share - articles, photos of interesting things going on, and we'll consider including it in this eMatrimony newsletter! Please send them to us at Joe & Linda Oppelt. Below are introductions from two lovely couples who will be sharing the editorial duties with us. Patricia and Doriano Baisi from Canada, and Hugo and Gaby Tecuanhuehue, who will be our Spanish editors.
Love, Joe and Linda Oppelt,
your NEW eMatrimony editors

New Canadian Editors
We are Patricia & Doriano Baisi.
We are honoured (and a little scared) to have accepted the
position of Canadian English eMatrimony editors. We were married in 1973. We made our first WWME Weekend in September
of 1987 in Surrey, British Columbia (a suburb of Vancouver). On our way home from the Weekend, Doriano (who
wasn't raised with the concept of volunteering) revealed that he "wanted to
stay involved with these people". What
an unexpected gift from the Holy Spirit!
We completed our post WWME Weekend program and went on to complete a
Bridging Session. Since then, on our
County Board, we have held the positions of:
supply couple, registration couple, and, currently, secretary couple. We also do pulpit talks encouraging couples
to attend a weekend and we try to make it out on the Friday night of most WWME
weekends to carry bags. Unfortunately,
these last two activities have been curtailed over the last year or so due to
the increased care required by Patricia's 95 year old mother who lives with us.
We look forward to building community locally, nationally,
and internationally as you share your stories of: special weekends, social
events, faith filled moments, and ideas for other communities to try. Please don't be shy of sending us articles
and pictures of the various happenings in your community.
Send
us questions and we'll try to find the
answers for you. If you've had a
particularly moving presentation, share it with us and the greater
community. Has a couple in your
community gone above and beyond the call of duty? Share that with us.
Have a great 10/10 question? We'd love to include that, too. This is
your
eJournal. We are just the conduit to the
greater community. Please include your names and where you are from.
(P.S. Don't worry
about your grammar or spelling, that's what editors are for! We'll
check all of that for you! The sharing is the important part.)
We have set up a dedicated email account to accept your
submissions. Please email us with your
news at: Doriano and Patricia.
Lovingly, Doriano and
Patricia Baisi

New Spanish Editors
We are Hugo and Gaby
Tecuanhuehue.
We got married in July 24th 1999, have three boys, 11,
9 and 4 years old. Hugo and I were both
born in Mexico. I was raised in Los
Angeles, California and that is where we met. We reside in Carol Stream, IL, and are part
of Worldwide Marriage Encounter Section 18.
We lived our weekend on October 21-23 2003 and since then been very
active in our community. We were
community Coordinators for 2006-2008. We
are also Section 18 Community Pillar. We
enjoy these gifts as a family. Our kids
come with us to pulpit talks, community events, community meetings and
basically everything except the weekends.
We want our kids to enjoy this as much as we do, and even though we are
extremely busy with our children activities, our priority is God and our
family, so somehow God has always find a way for us when we say "Yes" and
everything works out fine.
We are not the perfect couple,
and we are very thankful for finding WWME as it saved our marriage and is helping
us to be better parents, We strongly believe that if we are happy our kids will
be happier. Please send us your articles for possible inclusion in the eMatrimony newsletter! Please contact us at Hugo & Gaby
