It is with pride and excitement that we come to you as the newly-selected first leaders of the North American Secretariat.
This new Secretariat brings together the US and Canadian Secretariats into a single entity for representation at the WWME World Council, and forms a new chapter in the history of our world-wide movement. This Secretariat will bring together the best of all the cultures represented in the fifteen countries of our two Secretariats to work interdependently and meet our mission to renew the church and change the world. From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic, and from the Arctic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, the North American Secretariat will bring together a vibrant exchange of ideas and best-practices across all geographies, cultures and languages so as to encounter more couples and priests and better support our communities and our church. The Secretariat will also enhance our spirit of stewardship and sharing of financial resources. Our WWME National Office in San Bernardino, CA, now becomes the WWME Office, serving both the US and Canadian Secretariats. And other resources formerly utilized only for the US, such as eMatrimony and the WWME Calendar, will now become North American in focus. Our June 25-27, 2010 WWME Convention in Atlantic City, NJ, will now be our first North American Convention.
Canada is led by Eric and Lupita Goodwin, from Vancouver, BC, and Father John Persaud from Guyana. Tony and Cathy Witczak, and Father Emile Frische, MHM, will perform double duty as both the International Coordinating Team, as well as the US Secretariat leaders until new US leaders are selected at this coming October 2009 US Board meeting. We thank the Lord for the love and commitment of these wonderful couples and priests for their openness to servant-leadership in our movement.
But we are getting a little ahead of the story....let us introduce ourselves to you.
Jose and Marilyn Garcia were encountered in Fayetteville, NC in April 1996. They currently reside in Austin, TX, and were most recently the US Community Pillar Coordinators serving with Father Mark Willenbring. Jose came to the US from Cuba as a young boy, and is fluent in both English and Spanish. Jose and Marilyn recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, and are both retired. They have three married children and eight grandchildren. They enjoy playing golf and ballroom dancing.
Father Mitch Walters has been a priest for 28 years. He was encountered in October 1992, and currently is the Director of Lay Ministry Formation Programs for the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, and is a Canon Lawyer. He resides in South Orange, NJ, and was most recently part of the US Team Pillar Ecclesial Team with Scott and Karen Seaborn. He is fluent in English and French, and speaks some Spanish. He enjoys spending time with his family who lives close by in New Jersey, and is an intellectually curious person.
As the North American Secretariat is a brand new entity, our leadership work is the beginning of a long journey. However, as we start, we see three main missions for our work:
1. We need to use the wisdom and best practices of each country to help all. We need to improve communications across all levels of our movement and with the church, and establish cross-cultural personal relationships among the communities in the countries we serve. We will encourage, support, form, and even sometimes challenge the leadership of each Secretariat. We will be interdependent with each other spiritually, physically and financially to be the best that we each can be.
2. We will represent the North American continent to our world family through our participation in the World Council, and to our interfaith family by participation on the Interfaith Board. We need to be well versed in all of the cultures represented in our two countries, their needs and challenges, but also their gifts and wisdom, and share those with others all over the world.
3. We will utilize the skills and wisdom of our Secretariat Support Coordinators' staff to provide all of our US Sections and Canadian Districts with the right programs and resources to meet their needs. Programs and activities that are successful in one area will be made available to all areas, and we will over time integrate resources that can be shared across country borders such as our website and internet presence.
We have a lot of work to do, but we know that we have the Lord and the church on our side. We also know we have the passion and efforts of many couples and priests like you all over the world, committed to our mission to change the world and renew the church. We welcome and appreciate your ideas and prayers for us and for our movement. We will keep you in our prayers as well.
We are excited to get started and to meet each and every one of you as we all travel on our journeys. We want to be modern day apostles together with you. We love you and appreciate you!

Con mucho orgullo y emoción nos dirigimos a ustedes como los recientemente seleccionados y primeros líderes del Secretariado de Norte América.
Este Nuevo Secretariado une a los Secretariados de los Estados Unidos y Canadá en una sola entidad como representación ante el Concilio Mundial del EMM, y forma un nuevo capítulo en la historia de nuestro movimiento mundialmente. Este Secretariado unirá lo mejor de todas las culturas que se representan en los quince países de nuestros dos Secretariados, para trabajar interdependientemente y lograr llevar nuestra misión de renovar la iglesia y cambiar el mundo. Desde el Océano Pacifico al Atlántico y desde el Océano Ártico al Mar Caribe, el Secretariado de Norte América traerá un intercambio de ideas vibrante y practicas a través de todas nuestras culturas y lenguajes, para tener más parejas y sacerdotes encontrados y mejores comunidades de apoyo y de la iglesia. El Secretariado también emanara en el espíritu de ser buenos gerentes y en compartir nuestros recursos financieros. Nuestra oficina Nacional del EMM en San Bernardino, CA, ahora se vuelve la oficina del EMM, y sirve a ambos Secretariados de los Estados Unidos y Canadá. Y otros recursos que antes se utilizaban solo para los Estados Unidos, como eMatrimony y el calendario del EMM, ahora tendrá el enfoque del Secretariado de Norte América. Nuestra Convención del EMM de Junio 25-27, 2010, en Atlantic City, NJ, ahora será la primera Convención del Secretariado de Norte América.

El reside en South Orange, NJ, y ha sido recientemente parte del Equipo Eclesial del Pilar de Equipos junto con Scott and Karen Seaborn. El habla Ingles y Francés fluentemente y un poco de Español. El disfruta el tiempo al lado de su familia que vive en cerca de Él en New Jersey, y es una persona intelectualmente curiosa.
Como el Secretariado de Norte América es una nueva entidad, nuestro trabajo como líderes es el principio de una larga jornada. Sin embargo, al comenzar, miramos tres misiones principales para nuestro trabajo:
1. Necesitamos usar el conocimiento y las mejores prácticas de cada país para ayudar a todos. Necesitamos mejorar la comunicación entre todos los niveles de nuestro movimiento y con la iglesia, y establecer buenas relaciones personales y ínter-cultural entre las comunidades en nuestros países que servimos. Necesitamos ser versátiles en todas las culturas que son representadas por los dos países, sus necesidades y retos, pero también sus regalos y sabiduría, y compartirlos con nuestros compañeros de todo el mundo.
3. Utilizáremos el conocimiento, la sabiduría y el apoyo de nuestro conjunto de los Coordinadores del Soporte de Secretariado para proveer a las Secciones de los Estados Unidos y los Distritos de Canadá con los programas correctos y recursos para satisfacer sus necesidades. Programas y actividades que han tenido éxito en alguna área estarán disponible a todas las demás áreas, y a través del tiempo integraremos recursos que se puedan compartir a través de las fronteras como nuestra presencia de internet.
Tenemos mucho trabajo para hacer, pero sabemos que el Señor y la Iglesia están de nuestro lado. También sabemos que tenemos la pasión y esfuerzo de muchas parejas y sacerdotes como ustedes en todo el mundo, comprometidos en nuestra misión de cambiar el mundo y renovar la iglesia.
