How Much will ICD-10 Cost?
| Revenue at Risk
New study suggests there's confusion about the cost of converting to ICD-10. Of those organizations that have completed the financial assessment, 32% expect to spend up to $1 million to prepare, while just 9% estimated a cost between $1.1 million and $5 million. Only 1% of respondents project an implementation cost between $5 million and $10 million. More than half either were uncertain about an estimate or had not completed one.

| CareFirst Threatens Hospitals | Cost Containment Move Targets Prominent Hospital's Independent Specialists
According to a letter obtained by the Washington Business Journal, hospitals that currently enjoy the insurer's "Blue Distinction Center" status, which can generate more business for those hospitals in six high-cost specialties, will be to be kicked out of the program August 1st unless the specialists sign a contract with CareFirst.

Tennessee Blue Data Encryption
| Spends $6 Million to Encrypt Data at Rest
In October 2009, 57 hard drives were stolen from a BlueCross facility. The hard drives contained audio and video recordings related to customer service telephone calls from providers and members, and included varying degrees of personal information on about 1 million members. To date, there is no indication of any misuse of personal data from the stolen hard drives. Press release here.
