Greetings!

Sept. 11, 2001 is a day that most Americans will never forget and it has changed so many people's lives.

To me, 9-11 is a day of prayer and remembrance. It is a day to come together in unity and not fight amongst ourselves. It is a day to celebrate diversity and our freedoms. It is a day to thank and support our troops - both retired and now serving - for all that they do for us, for all that they and their families have willingly sacrificed.

What does 9-11 mean to you?

Remembering  September 11 , 2001
911

We shall never forget,
We shall keep this day,
We shall keep the events        and the tears
In our minds, our memory and our hearts
and take them with us as we carry on.

We want to especially remember the firefighters, the policemen, the medical personnel, rescue workers, and all the people who helped others on the attack sites during the actual disaster days, and those who helped to clean up in the aftermath.  Some of them accomplished some truly heroic tasks, and deserve to be called heroes!

Explaining September 11th To Your Child

I worked at Lehman Brothers and was on the 39th floor of the North Tower (WTC) when the first plane hit.

The thing that lives with me most is my trip down the stairwell, seeing the Firefighters climbing past us and knowing what they gave that day.

When I speak to my children (7 and 13) about that day I talk frankly about what happened (the details - how I got out etc), but I focus on what it is to be a hero. I tell them that the greatest good can come at the worst of times and that we are all inherently capable of producing that good.

I want them to be heroes, but I try to tell them being a hero is more about sacrificing a little piece of your life every day to make other people's lives better (you don't have to give it up all at once to be a hero).

The greatest message of that day isn't about terror and death ... it's about the capacity for goodness. Being a guy who saw first hand what those firefighters did, what their faces looked like, I can safely say that this is the real message worth teaching.

Always focus on the positive with kids!
