Unit 6 Newsletter

Dear Graceland Parents,

Unit 6 is the final segment of our program year. As I look back on all of the wonderful experiences we've had...from 4th Grade Bible Sunday... to Advent Worshop...to our Beach Party at Kid's Night Out...I can't believe how quickly the year has gone by! I feel blessed to have spent this special time worshipping, celebrating, sharing and growing with your children.

Believe it our not it's time to think about SUMMER AT WCC! If you haven't signed up for Summer Bible Camp please scroll down - space is limited and camp is filling up quickly. You can look forward to reading about more summer activities for children in my next Children's Newsletter.

Thanks again for sharing your wonderful children with me!

Blessings,

Jodie Nyberg

John 21:1-15
After the resurrection the disciples recognized Jesus in familiar places and in familiar activities. We too can experience the hope and love of Jesus in everyday activities such as walking, talking and eating.

Unit 6 Service Project & 2009 Mission Festival
Kids Against Hunger
The Unit 6 Service Project, as well as our 2009 Mission Festival (May 31), will benefit Kids Against Hunger, an organization which packs and sends nutrient-rich, life-sustaining food to starving children around the world. This year's Mission Festival will be especially meaningful with an added "hands on" piece next Fall. In November, a mobile packing unit from Kids Against Hunger will be on site in the Gym for 3 days. During this time we will form packing teams and package the food which will be sent to those in need. Our goal is to pack at least 45,000 meals! This will be a church-wide project so the more money we raise, the more we'll be able to pack.

We are collecting the following items for use during our Mission Festival Celebration on the 31st of May. Please bring them to Sunday School or to the collection box at the West Entry any time before 5/31.

Carnival Toys - Happy meal toys, small cars, action figures, party favors, candy. (Anything that could be used as a prize in a carnival.)

Mission Festival Baskets - This year we are going to assemble themed baskets by grade level for the Mission Festival Auction. Please bring the following (new) items any Sunday or Wednesday to the West Entrance and look for drop off boxes:

Kindergarten:               Small dolls or action figures
Grade 1:                       Gardening (seeds, tools, gloves, etc)
Grade 2:                       Legos (or other construction type toys)
Grade 3:                       Book Basket (chapter books  or picture books
Grade 4:                       Family Game Night (any games you enjoy)
Grade 5:                       Sports and Summer Fun (balls, water toys, goggles, beach stuff)

Cakes -  For the cake walk! Bring your cakes to the Mithun Kitchen on the morning of Mission Festival (May 31st).

Family Donations for the Auction - Tickets to events, themed baskets, services (handy man, babysitting), handmade items (jewelry, art, specialty baked goods, etc), vacation home (these bring in big donations)...anything you can dream up!

Unit 6
March 29 - May 17 (longer than Graceland)
As we start Unit 6, we continue to learn the stories of Easter and how Jesus is alive! Easter is a time to emphasize new life, as we all have new life in our belief in Jesus Christ.

One way to learn these stories is through the Bible. It tells us how God was known to people of these times. We see God at work in their lives as we read the stories every week. The Bible also helps us understand God today. Each week the children will get a better understanding of who God is and how God wants us to live.

Prayer is another way for children to connect with God. Through prayer we teach them how to invite God into their space, and we introduce God as someone who is with them always.

I encourage you to ask your children about what they are learning in Sunday School. Let them share with you their special worship experience.

Bible Verse:
