| Downtown Fuquay-Varina Scaring Up Halloween Fun
Friday, October 30 from 2-5 pm |
 The Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association is pleased to announce that the merchants on Main and Broad Streets in the historic shopping district will sponsor a Trick or Treat event on Friday, October 30th from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Last year, this event was a tremendous success because it provided a friendly, safe environment for the little ones to enjoy the holiday. It's easy to participate! Dress-up your lil' ghosts and goblins, grab a bag and visit the merchants on Main and Broad Streets that display the sign, "Trick or Treat Here!" The merchants on Main and Broad Streets promise to scare-up lots of treats and fun for your family, so make sure to visit them on October 30th between 2:00 - 5:00 pm. The event will be held rain or shine.

The 7th annual Chili Cook-off promises to be the biggest ever! With more than 13 teams entered at press time, the public has a great opportunity to taste a wide variety of chili and vote for their favorite on Saturday, October 31 from 10:30 am - 3:30 pm. From mild to insanely hot, you're sure to find one that suites your taste buds.
 The Downtown Chili contest will be located in the large parking lot at the corner of Main and Vance Streets across from Cooley's Restaurant along the wall closest to Ann's Diamond Center. You can taste all chili entries for $5.00 and vote for your favorite. The chili team that receives the most votes will win a cash prize of $500! Second and third place winners receive $300 and $150 prizes respectively. Please join us for this very fun event in downtown Fuquay-Varina.

| Day in Downtown to Feature Family Contests

The Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce 7th annual Day in Downtown, this year held on Halloween, will feature a number of family oriented contests for all ages. The event will be held Saturday, October 31 on Main Street in Historic Downtown Fuquay. There will be four contests held this year that will be open to the public. They are:
COSTUME CONTEST: Your children can show off their Halloween finery to those gathered at the festival. This contest is open to all children ages 14 and younger, with participants divided into three age groups and prizes in each. Children will model their costumes to the crowd while the judging is done. Registration for this contest will be the morning of the festival with the contest starting at noon.
PUMPKIN COLORING CONTEST: This is a chance for the very youngest to show off their coloring skills and creativity. Children ages 10 and younger are eligible to color a picture of a pumpkin that is available on the Chamber's web site. Contestants will be divided into two age categories with awards given in each. Colored pictures must be submitted to the Chamber by Thursday, October 29. Finalists will be posted at the festival where the winner will be announced.
PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST: Show how creative and scary you can get. Open to all ages, entrants must pre-register with the Chamber. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: scariest; funniest; and most creative. There will be a $25.00 prize awarded in each category. The contest is limited to 50 participants, and submissions will be displayed at the festival. There is a $5.00 registration fee. Rules and entry form are available on the Chamber's web site.
PUMPKIN PIE CONTEST: Attention everyone who thinks they have the best pumpkin pie recipe in town. This is your chance to prove it. This contest is open to all non-professionals, with an original recipe. First place prize is $50.00 and second place is $25.00. Entrants must pre-register with the Chamber and pies delivered to the Chamber Friday, October 30. There is a $5.00 fee to enter. Rules and entry form are available on the Chamber's web site.

Cellar 101 emphasizes wines from vineyards that are family-owned and stay true to small production. Each is hand-picked by the owners, who have combined their passion for wine and entrepreneurism into this venture.
Cellar 101 is located in the recently renovated Mitchell building located at 101 S. Main Street... It's the perfect place to find gifts for wine lovers or those just learning about wine. Helpful and knowledgeable staff is always nearby to answer questions, though the wines are nicely labeled with plenty of detail.
At Cellar 101 tasting is the first step towards learning about wine. At the 12 tasting stations, wines are arranged by varietals and regions, allowing you to easily compare several wines at a time. We had a very good meeting in October with a video and discussion. At our next meeting we will have a 31 minute video titled "Money History in Your Hands". It is a good video that we should all find interesting with a discussion to follow. Be sure to bring any coins, currency or tokens that you wish to show or have questions about. We will have a door prize drawing as usual and gifts for our junior attendees as well. Our December 8th meeting will be at Golden Corral in Fuquay-Varina where we will all meet and eat. All are welcome to attend. Don't forget the Coin Show at the State Fairgrounds the 14th and 15th of November.

Our Fuquay-Varina Arts Council is building a Board and needs people who have an interest in helping to shape the growth of Art in our area.If you have an interest in; a position on our Board of Directors, to participate in an event planning committee or just learn more about what we are planning, please attend this meeting.
At this meeting, we hope to assign a committee to get our fundraiser "Photos with Santa" planned and going. We scrambled to start this last year and with little exposure and less marketing, we still raised around $1,000. It can be much better and more organized this year.
Additionally, we plan to set a monthly music series with 6 events from January to June. We contemplate 3 indoors and 3 outside. There is much work required to pull this off and then keep the momentum to build a strong and active organization.
All facets of building this into an important organization in our town are wide open and we need your involvement.
