Happy 100th Fuquay-Varina From Elliotts Pharmacy

Elliotts Pharmacy, Fuquay-Varina's second or third longest continuously operating business (since 1914), congratulates ALL OF US for 100 years as the Town of Fuquay-Varina. We truly have a GREAT place to live, work, shop, and play. A wonderful celebration is planned for Saturday the 10th, and we hope everyone has a wonderful time at the Fuquay-Varina Centennial Gala. We have enjoyed the many visits by Mrs. Simmons, Russ, and Kathy as they have worked to make this celebration possible. Many thanks go out to ALL who have helped throughout the year, especially the Centennial Commission Members and the Centennial Gala Committee Members.

Elliotts Pharmacy still has the Fuquay-Varina Centennial Calendar, the book, A History of Fuquay-Varina, and the Fuquay-Varina Woman's Club Cookbook, The Club's Choice Centennial Edition, available for purchase. These are great items about the history of Fuquay-Varina. We also have the schedule and contact information for the Squire Ballentine School House, the Fuquay Springs Post Office, and the Centennial Museum, which are located on South Fuquay Avenue. Our Soda Fountain has received a new shipment of Elliotts Pharmacy t-shirts, in a wide variety of colors with sizes from Youth XS through Adult 2XL. We invite you in for a sandwich and milkshake at our 1950's-era Soda Fountain.

HAPPY 100th FUQUAY-VARINA!

Downtown Fuquay-Varina Scaring Up Halloween Fun
Friday, October 30 from 2-5 pm

Halloween08The Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association is pleased to announce that the merchants on Main and Broad Streets in the historic shopping district will sponsor a Trick or Treat event on Friday, October 30th from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Last year, this event was a tremendous success because it provided a friendly, safe environment for the little ones to enjoy the holiday.  It's easy to participate!  Dress-up your lil' ghosts and goblins, grab a bag and visit the merchants on Main and Broad Streets that display the sign, "Trick or Treat Here!"  The merchants on Main and Broad Streets promise to scare-up lots of treats and fun for your family, so make sure to visit them on October 30th between 2:00 - 5:00 pm.  The event will be held rain or shine.

Chamber to Host Candidates Forum THIS THURSDAY, OCT. 8

The Fuquay-Varina Area Chamber of Commerce will host a forum of those running for positions on the Town's Board of Commissioners on Thursday, October 8, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The forum will be held in the Commission's Chambers in Town Hall located at 401 Old Honeycutt Road.

The forum will consist of short opening and closing statements by the candidates.  Rounds of questions will fill the remaining time.  The Chamber will prepare an initial list of questions for the candidates, but those attending will be invited to submit questions in writing for use during the forum.

Invited to attend are Mayoral candidates, incumbent John W. Byrne and challenger Robin Jackson Gray.  Incumbent Commissioners William H. Harris and Cynthia Y. Sheldon are expected to be joined by James H. Abernathy and Christopher Wrenn.

The forum is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.  No level of government so directly touches a person as their local elected officials.  From tax rate setting, to local ordinances, their actions affect us on a day-to-day basis.  Take advantage of one of the few opportunities you will have to hear their views directly from them.  You may call the Chamber with any questions, (919) 552-4947.

Rent Space at the Mitchell Building - Downtown Fuquay's Premiere
Retail Space

The Mitchell Building at 101 South Main Street has three fantastic retail / restaurant spaces still available for lease.  These spaces are at what is arguably the busiest corner in Southern Wake County - the corner of South Main and Academy Streets.  A 2,082 sf space is located right on the corner with fantastic store window space and visibility.  A 1,977 sf space is available toward the rear of the building off of Academy Street .  This space has four huge (low-e energy efficient windows) that wash over the space with natural light.  Both of these spaces feature towering 26 ft exposed ceilings and Bethlehem steel trusses supporting the unique bow-string roof.  In the lower level is a 3,024 sf space that would be perfect for a piano bar, rathskellar or any tenant that desires to go 'underground'.  On the roof is downtown Fuquay-Varina's first solar panel installation, a 10kw PV system that will begin converting sunlight into energy next week !

Ample parking is available in the new Town parking lot and commons right across the street.

Contact Mary or Eric at 919-577-9835 if your interested in being a part of this exciting renovation of the old Mitchell Chevrolet building in downtown Fuquay.   Or you can check us out at www.themitchellfv.com.

100 Years On Parade During the Brass Nickel Tour

Let us see what Fuquay-Varina's people have worn over the 100 years of the town's history!  Search your attic and your closets and find clothing from any of the decades from 1900 to 2000. Don't mix decades for you will need to register in one.

Categories:
1. Family/Couple
2. Parent/Child or Grandparent/Grandchild
3. Individual
4. Groups (cheerleaders, teens, hippies, seniors etc.)
5. Man with BEARD & dress for era

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 celebrate with the Brass Nickel Touring Cars visiting Fuquay-Varina.  Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. in front of Fidelity Bank.  Entries will be given a number for the judges.  All entries will be presented from the steps of Fidelity Bank at 6:45 p.m.  Judges decisions will be announced from the stage later that night.
Prizes will be awarded!

"100 Years on Parade" will take place with the touring cars parked for viewing and streets closed to traffic. Entries will be "parading" along the street after presentation for benefit of the judges and the public.

The Centennial Commission encourages families to come as a unit.  Grandparents will enjoy enlisting the grandchildren in an earlier time.  Men, this is your opportunity to sport that "GREAT BEARD."  Maybe you have grandma's wedding dress, or that prom dress from your senior year, or even your favorite flapper outfit! Maybe all the grandchildren in your family can get "decked out" from your old trunks.
