2009 TASTE OF FUQUAY-VARINA
WINNERS ANNOUNCED
|
More than 2500 people came to Historic Broad Street on Saturday, September 26th to experience "Sweet Things, Chicken Wings and a Whole Lot More," this year's theme of the Taste of Fuquay-Varina hosted by the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association. "We're thrilled to have so many wonderful bakers and restaurants in Fuquay-Varina willing to share their talents with the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association and the community," said Kathy Barnes, Vice Chairman or the association. "We are also very thankful to Stephen's Hardware for allowing us to take over their store for judging and serving cakes." The winner of the Best Chicken Wings in Fuquay-Varina Contest was Monte's Sports Grille located at 525 E. Broad Street. Approximately 350 people voted in the contest after tasting a sample at each participating restaurant's tent located across from Stephen's on Broad Street. "We are very proud of Monte's and extremely honored that each of the restaurants would enter the contest especially since it is a first year venture," said Barnes. In addition to Monte's, the following restaurants participated in the wings contest: Assaggio's, Cooley's Restaurants and Pub, Golden Corral, and Ruby Tuesday's.
There were 45 cake entries in six cake categories and each cake was judged by a set of five judges from the community. | Rent Space at the Mitchell Building - Downtown Fuquay's Premiere
Retail Space |
The Mitchell Building at 101 South Main Street has three fantastic retail / restaurant spaces still available for lease. These spaces are at what is arguably the busiest corner in Southern Wake County - the corner of South Main and Academy Streets. A 2,082 sf space is located right on the corner with fantastic store window space and visibility. A 1,977 sf space is available toward the rear of the building off of Academy Street . This space has four huge (low-e energy efficient windows) that wash over the space with natural light. Both of these spaces feature towering 26 ft exposed ceilings and Bethlehem steel trusses supporting the unique bow-string roof. In the lower level is a 3,024 sf space that would be perfect for a piano bar, rathskellar or any tenant that desires to go 'underground'. On the roof is downtown Fuquay-Varina's first solar panel installation, a 10kw PV system that will begin converting sunlight into energy next week !
Ample parking is available in the new Town parking lot and commons right across the street.
Contact Mary or Eric at 919-577-9835 if your interested in being a part of this exciting renovation of the old Mitchell Chevrolet building in downtown Fuquay. Or you can check us out at www.themitchellfv.com. |
| Chamber to Host Town Candidates' Forum |
|
The Fuquay-Varina Area Chamber of Commerce will host a forum of those running for positions on the Town's Board of Commissioners on Thursday, October 8, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The forum will be held in the Commission's Chambers in Town Hall located at 401 Old Honeycutt Road.
The forum will consist of short opening and closing statements by the candidates. Rounds of questions will fill the remaining time. The Chamber will prepare an initial list of questions for the candidates, but those attending will be invited to submit questions in writing for use during the forum.
Invited to attend are Mayoral candidates, incumbent John W. Byrne and challenger Robin Jackson Gray. Incumbent Commissioners William H. Harris and Cynthia Y. Sheldon are expected to be joined by James H. Abernathy and Christopher Wrenn.
The forum is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. No level of government so directly touches a person as their local elected officials. From tax rate setting, to local ordinances, their actions affect us on a day-to-day basis. Take advantage of one of the few opportunities you will have to hear their views directly from them. You may call the Chamber with any questions, (919) 552-4947.
