Thank you for being a contestant in the Second Annual Taste of Fuquay-Varina Cake Contest on Saturday, September 26th.    Here's what you need to know:
FOR THOSE ENTERED IN TASTE AND CUPCAKE CATEGORIES

1.       Please bring cakes in the following categories to STEPHENS HARDWARE located at 405 E. Broad Street in Historic Varina between 9:00 - 9:45 am on Saturday, September 26 for registration.  Judging will begin promptly at 10:00 am.

1.       Chocolate Cakes
2.       Pound Cakes
3.       Family Favorite Cakes
4.       For Men Only Division
5.       Decorated Cupcakes - Age 16 and Under

2.        At registration, you will be given a number to place on your cake and it will be judged by its number.  The judges will not know your name.

3.       At registration, you will also be given a placard.  On this placard, we are asking you to put your name and the name of your cake.  The placard will also be tagged with your number to ensure the placard doesn't get lost from the cake.  We will invert the placard and place this under your cake during judging so no one can see it.  When your cake is moved outside for tasting by the public, the placard will be turned right-side out and put beside the cake so people buying a slice of cake will know who made it and what kind of cake it is.

4.        Once you've registered, you will bring your entry to the appropriate table/shelf by category.  This ensures that it arrives to the appropriate destination with the greatest of care!

5.       Please make sure that cakes and cupcakes are on disposable plates.  We can't be held responsible for returning non-disposable plates to you.

6.       After judging, all cakes in the above listed categories will be cut and sold to the public between 12:00 - 5:00 pm.

7.       Prizes for each category will be announced at 4:00 pm at the D.J. microphone in front of Varina Sports Bar.  First place prizes for each category include a $50 cash prize and a blue ribbon.  Second and third place award certificates will be given in each category.  You do not have to be present to win.

FOR THOSE ENTERED IN THE DECORATED CAKES- AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL DIVISIONS

1.       Cakes submitted for the Decorated Cake (Amateur and Professional Divisions) should arrive at My Back Porch at 515 E. Broad Street between 9-10 am on Saturday, September 26.  Decorated cakes will be displayed in the window of My Back Porch during the day so as to keep them fresh.

2.       At registration, you will be given a number to place on your cake and it will be judged by its number.  The judges will not know your name.

3.       From 12:00-3:45 pm, Decorated Cakes will be auctioned in a silent auction to the highest bidder.  This is something new this year and we don't know if it will work!  If your cake does not sell by 3:45 pm and you want it back, please let us know and we will call you and you can pick it up by 5:00 pm the day of the event.  If it is not picked up by 5:00 pm, it will be discarded.

4.       Please make sure that cakes are on disposable plates.  We can't be held responsible for returning non-disposable plates to you.

5.       Prizes for each category will be announced at 4:00 pm at the D.J. microphone in front of Varina Sports Bar.  First place prizes for each category include a $50 cash prize and a blue ribbon.  Second and third place award certificates will be given in each category.  You do not have to be present to win.
