Landmark Tour and Talk Mark Fuquay-Varina's 100th Anniversary
Save the date for the Capital Area Preservation (CAP) Landmarks Tour of Historic Fuquay-Varina.  Co-hosted by the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission (WCHPC), the Fuquay-Varina Women's Club, Fuquay-Varina Questers #1134, and the Fuquay-Varina Centennial Committee, the Tour will take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2009.

Don't miss this opportunity to get a rare inside look at some of Fuquay-Varina's historic architectural gems as you explore the Historic Fuquay Springs neighborhood and downtown Varina, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Highlights include the Johnson-Vuncannon home, an impressive Georgian-Revival home nestled among one-hundred foot trees; the Proctor House, a Dutch-Revival home; and the Roy and Geraldine Tilley house, a modernist residence designed by Durham architect John D. Latimer, and many more!

In conjunction with the Landmarks Tour, CAP and the WCHPC will also co-host two other Fuquay-Varina events: a talk by Lauri Michel, Vice President for Community Revitalization of the National Trust for Historic Preservation at the Fuquay-Varina Women's Club Clubhouse on Thursday April 23 at 7:00 p.m. and the Annual Wake County Preservation Celebration at the Fuquay Mineral Springs Inn immediately following the Tour on Saturday.  All three events -- Tour, Talk and Celebration -- kick-off National Historic Preservation Month in Wake County and mark Fuquay-Varina's 100th Anniversary.

Tickets:  The Thursday night talk by Ms. Michel is free and open to the public thanks to a generous grant from the Wake County Board of Commissioners.  Ticket prices for the Tour are: $10.00 for adult tickets purchased in advance and for members of the sponsoring organizations.  On the day of the Tour: $12.00 for adults; and $5.00 for children 7-17; children under 6 are free. Tour tickets include admission to the Wake County Preservation Celebration.

Advance tickets for the Tour are available now in Raleigh at Capital Area Preservation, Inc. (CAP) 1111 Haynes Street (Suite 105).   Credit cards (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa), cash, and checks (payable to CAP) accepted.  Tickets may also be obtained by writing CAP at P.O. Box 28072, Raleigh, NC, 27611 (credit cards and checks accepted with this option), or by calling Capital Area Preservation at 919.833.6404 (credit cards only with this option).  Advance Tour tickets will also be available at the Fuquay-Varina Women's Club on the evening of Thursday, April 23 before and after Ms. Michel's talk.

Tickets on the day of the tour will be available at the Fuquay Mineral Springs Inn and Gardens Gazebo at 333 South Main Street, Fuquay-Varina.   Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.  Ticket holders will receive a comprehensive guidebook and map. After the day of the Tour, additional copies of the Guidebook may be purchased from the CAP Office for $5.00.

Capital Area Preservation is Wake County's primary non-profit historic preservation organization.   CAP's mission is to advocate and invest in the preservation of Wake County's historic resources as an essential element of Wake County's growth.  For more information about Capital Area Preservation and/or the Landmarks Tour, Talk and Celebration, please call 919.833.6404 or email: info@cappresinc.org.  CAP's web page is www.cappresinc.org.
