Fuquay-Varina Arts Council Festival of Dance on Sunday, Feb. 8th
The Fuquay-Varina Arts Council is Sponsoring a Festival of Dance on Sunday, February 8th from 3 - 5 pm at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center.  Come see a special performances by Golden Gates of Russia and area dance companies including Center Stage Dance School of Performing Arts, Main Street Dance, Infinity Ballet Conservatory, Fuquay-Varina Community Dance Academy and Studio Five Dance Company.  The Community Center is located at 820 South Main Street.  Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated!  For more information, call Dave at 552-1752.
FVAA Soccer Tournaments This Weekend - Expect 1000's
On the weekend of February 7 & 8 (Sat & Sun) the Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association will host their 2009 Presidential Classic soccer tournament.  The tournament brings youth and their faimlilies from all over North Carolina to Fuauqya-Varina for a two day tournament.  80 teams will be participating, bringing an estimated 3500-4000 to our community.  If you are interested in watching some of the action, details are available through the FVAA's web site, www.fvaa.org, or their offices at 552-5465.

Saturday, Feb. 7th at 6-8 pm

Do you have a few hours a week to make a difference in your community? Pass It On is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to help greet customers, as well as sort and stock clothing donations. Volunteers are needed during regular store hours, especially Saturdays between 10 am and 4 pm. Celebration of the Arts - Call for Artists
The 6th annual Celebration of the Arts will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Historic Downtown Fuquay-Varina and attracts more than 4000 visitors during the one-day event.  The festival is open to all artists and fine crafts people producing original work.

W. Thomas McCuiston Attends University of Miami, School of Law, Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning
Board Certified Estate Planning Specialist, W. Thomas McCuiston, JD CPA, attended the 43rd Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning held in Orlando, Fl. last month.  As the nation's leading conference for estate planning professionals, the seminar offers a wide variety of workshops, panel discussions and case studies along with practical guidance on complex estate planning techniques.
 
"As the largest gathering of estate planning professionals in the country, this is a   unique opportunity to exchange ideas and review the latest developments in estate planning. Attending is one way I am able to expand my knowledge and keep up to date on the most current and sophisticated practices in estate planning," said Mr. McCuiston.

FVRA Announces New Board of Directors for 2009
The Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association is pleased to announce their new Board of Directors for 2009.  Keith Davis, Retail Hardware Manager at Stephens Hardware will Chair the FVRA Board.  Kathy Barnes, Commercial Lines Manager with the Young Group of Fuquay will serve as Vice Chair.  Sheri Hovey, owner of Jazzercise of Fuquay will remain as Secretary of the organization and John Ellis will become the Treasurer.
 
Other FVRA Board members for 2009 include Charlie Adcock, a local Fuquay-Varina businessman and Town Commissioner; Ann Marie Amico, President of Ann Marie Amico Design, Inc.; Eric Christofferson, Senior Buyer at Tyco Electronics; Dennis Duke, partner with Dennis Duke CPAs; Curtis Holleman, owner of Elliotts Pharmacy; Donald Mangum, Commercial Broker Associate with Becky Medlin Realty; Cindy Overman, Vice President and Human Resources Director with Patriot State Bank; Ed Perry, owner of The Chocolate Bean; and Eleanor Stephenson, owner of David Anthony Gifts.
 
Susan Weis, Executive Director, believes the FVRA is fortunate to have a very active and talented Board of Directors committed to serving the needs of the historic downtown.  "The Board is comprised from businesses and property owners from both historic downtowns areas, as well as concerned citizens who simply love and care for the historic area.  Because there is such a wide representation of people on the board, we are able to get a variety of opinions, strengths and skill-sets." 
 
Top priorities the FVRA Board will address this year include improved pedestrian and property safety, numerous beautification projects, and continuing to partner with the Town of Fuquay-Varina on various projects.  The Board will also explore new ways to visually, physically, and spiritually connect the two historic downtown areas of Main and Broad Streets.  In 2009, the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association will host 13 promotions and events to attract people to downtown, build foot traffic and create awareness about historic Downtown Fuquay-Varina.  For a complete list of events or to learn more about the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association, go to www.fuquay-varinadowntown.com.
