CHICKEN WINGS FIGHT FIRES
when they are served at Pluckers Wing Bar on Tuesday, November 8th, from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. Christ Chapel is joining with Phi Beta Chi to raise money for the victims of the Bastrop fires. Over 1600 homes were destroyed in that blaze, and it will take years for the area to completely recover. We can do our part, and all it takes is eating supper at Pluckers on the 8th. BE SURE to mention to your server that you are there for the benefit - even write it on the ticket - and we'll get a generous portion of the profits from that meal. If you have a Plucker's card, don't use it, or the whole deal is off. By the way, we'll also have JESUS ON TAP that night at Plucker's at 8:00 p.m., our night to talk theology. This month's theme: "Fire, Hell, and other Hot Things: What the Bible Really Says." |
HUNGER BOWL
More do-gooding! The Hunger Bowl is our annual fund-raising event for the Hays County Food Bank. We join with UCM-Wesley, the Catholic Student Center, and several other organizations in selling food on the Quad. Christ Chapel will sell sausage wraps from 10:00 to 2:00 each day. Sign up to help sell, or at least come by and buy. Every $20 raised provides a family a Thanksgiving meal; our goal is 200 meals this year. Follow up our work with the annual
PROGRESSIVE DINNER
We join with UCM-Wesley and the Catholic Student Center for dinner on Thursday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m., starting with appetizers by the CSC, a main dish by Christ Chapel, and dessert by UCM-Wesley. Space is limited to the first 15 who sign up or e-mail christchapel@txstate.edu. |

Ignight is our Wednesday evening time together. Every Wednesday night is different, but almost always includes some songs, a prayer, and then something important to talk about or do.
November 9th: Robby Landauer, a Texas State grad student who is attempting the first completely human-powered solo circumnavigation of the world. Yep, he's riding a bike around the world, including across the ocean in a pedal-powered boat, all to raise money for Autism Speaks. Follow the link at the bottom of the page to read more about his journey.
November 16th: Holden Evening Prayer
Simply a beautiful liturgy.
November 23rd: Abandoned Building, Lights Out
That's because you will be on Thanksgiving break. Don't show up.
November 30th: Feast of St. Andrew
Brother of Simon Peter and among the first of the apostles, Andrew is the patron saint of fishers, fishmongers, rope-makers, golfers and performers. I don't get how he's connected to performers, but golf started in Scotland, and Andrew is the patron saint of that country. We'll celebrate St. Andrew with a Bible Study and by cooking the only edible food ever to originate from Scotland: Shortbread! |

God Goes to the Movies: December 1st, 8:00 p.m.
We were supposed to watch this last month, but it wasn't released in time. So, you have another chance to join us to watch on our entirely awesome 42" flat-screen with surround-sound and Blue-Ray DVD player "Super 8." In 1979, after the Air Force closes a section of Area 51, all materials are transported to a secure facility in Ohio. A train carrying some of the materials derails during an accident and something escapes from one of the cargo cars. A group of kids making movies with their Super 8 cameras accidentally capture what escapes on film. Silliness, or does the movie say something important about our culture and our fears? And where's God in it all? Popcorn provided. Bring a friend.

HIGHER GROUNDS COFFEE HOUSE
Our free, fairly traded and organic coffee is open Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We also have free tea, and for a limited time, free cocoa and apple cider. You can drink it in the lounge or take it with you. And, by the way, it's free. Tell people about this place; we've got wi-fi also, and it's a great place to study. |

REVIEWS
World Series: One strike away from winning it all, twice. That's how close the Texas Rangers came, only to give St. Louis the win in game 6 and ultimately the World Championship. You may not care about baseball, but even the most apathetic can't help but recognize the important spiritual lesson to be learned from that game; losing stinks. Except when it comes to losing yourself in love and service to Christ; there's where you'll find the great victory. Otherwise, losing stinks.
Political Debates:
What a weird way to pick a nominee. "Hey, let's tear each other down and see who can be the most conservative and least likely to appeal to the broad middle of the electorate!" The Dems put on their own version of the same show when they've no incumbent, and it is no less ugly. It's sort of like watching big-time wrestling, minus the contenders bashing each over the heads with folding chairs. Of course, we can always hope; there are at least eight more debates to go. |
Our campus mission is to be a welcoming spiritual community, a place for people of any gender, race, national origin, and sexual orientation. Growing together in faith, we seek the unity that Christ envisions for His church through learning, liturgical worship, service, and fellowship. |
