SPECIAL FEAST ON SUNDAY NIGHT, OCT. 17th, with SPECIAL GUEST NATE BOSTAIN
Nate Bostain, Chaplain at TMI, the Episcopal School of Texas, will share his faith journey with us on Sunday, October 17th, during worship. Nate is a dynamic speaker with a great story to tell about how God has been at work in his young life. That same night, students who have been learning to cook in Pr. Jaime's "Welcoming Table" class will provide supper for the worshipping community on Sunday, October 17th at 6:15 p.m. Choosing from among the favorite of the dishes they prepared, they will be serving roasted leg of lamb, maple-mustard glazed pork tenderloin, grilled blue cheese and fig preserve sandwiches, Israeli couscous with herbs and raisins, pesto crositini, a three-pepper salad, plum crunch, mango sorbet, and lavender lemonade. Come hungry, leave for worship. |

Nooma Bible Study Every Monday at 6:00 p.m.
Our Bible study this semester uses Nooma, a video-based Bible study by Rob Bell that cuts right through the nonsense and gets to some terribly important questions. Scripture and your own experience intersect for great, meaningful conversation. Come join us at 6:00 on Mondays. No experience necessary. We meet in the Christ Chapel Lounge, in the lower level of our building.

GOD GOES TO A SCARY MOVIE
What's the deal with zombies? Are they our archetype for resurrection? Christians would say no, as when Jesus promised abundant and eternal life, we don't think he meant we would spend it lurching about looking for some tasty frontal lobes on which to feast. Nonetheless, zombie movies are still wildly popular, and we'll watch one of the newest ones together on Thursday, October 28th at 8:00 p.m., and talk about these and other related questions. Come, bring someone with you; we've got a great flat-screen, sound system, and blue-ray player. Popcorn provided. |
Dia de los Muertos: Sunday, October 31st We are joining with our friends from UMC-Wesley and the San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (which meet in Christ Chapel on Sunday mornings) in constructing a Dia de los Muertos altar in our sanctuary. Dia de los Muertos, or "Day of the Dead" is an Hispanic custom that evokes native Meso-American rituals in a Christian form; a temporary altar, or "ofrendo" is built to honor those who have died and is decorated with pictures, candles, and elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. You are invited to bring pictures or mementos of loved ones to add to the altar that evening in our observance of All Hallow's Eve, the day before All Saint's Day. This is the Christian remembrance of all the saints who have gone before us, be they the named saints or the saints in our own lives. We'll also give a nod to the Reformation on that Sunday night.
ENCHANTED ROCK!
We're going to take a trip on Saturday, October 30th, to Enchanted Rock State Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Texas, for a day of hiking, climbing, and recreation. Five dollars covers your costs, including gas, entry and meals. We'll leave from Christ Chapel at 9:00 and return after dusk. Some may choose to camp overnight: an additional modest fee will be required for those campers. Registration $ are due on Wednesday, October 27th.
DR. CYNTHIA GONZALES TO SPEAK AT "EVENING PRAYER WITH A PROFESSOR" How has Professor Cynthia Gonzales' confession of faith shaped her profession? Hear Dr. Gonzales of Texas State's highly regarded music department speak on that subject and answer your questions on Wednesday, October 20th, at 7:00 p.m. Come early to join us for dinner with our friends from UCM-Wesley Foundation at 6:15.
VIDEO GAME NIGHT: We are joining with UCM-Wesley Foundation on October 22nd at 8:00 p.m. to just have some fun with video games. The "chapel" downstairs has been equipped with a drop-down screen so that we can play in 80" glory, not to mention gaming on the flat-screen TV in the Christ Chapel lounge. Bring any systems, special controllers, games, etc. that you so desire. LATE NIGHT BREAKFAST BIBLE STUDY: NOV. 2, 10:00 p.m. Come join us for a look into the Bible and a great breakfast at 10:00 at night. We'll have Scripture, pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice, milk, and coffee, and it's all free.

Our campus mission is to be a welcoming spiritual community, a place for people of any gender, race, national origin, and sexual orientation. Growing together in faith, we seek the unity that Christ envisions for His church through learning, liturgical worship, service, and fellowship. | |
