A Quick Read from Higher Ground
An occasional note about important stuff
Valentine's Day, 2008 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friends,
Happy Valentine's Day!  Even if you don't have a sweetie, be sure to tell someone you love him or her.  Heck, do that every day.  It's good for you and those you love.  But first, read the stuff below.
LAST CHANCE TO GO TO NEW ORLEANS
This Sunday night is the deadline for going on "What a Relief!", our Spring Break trip to rebuild homes and lives in New Orleans.  If you have been thinking about going, SEND ME AN E-MAIL right away to higherground@txstate.edu.  I'll reserve you a space and get you the application form.  This is a Spring Break you'll never forget, so sign up soon!

PIZZA AND SCRIPTUREpizza
Our regular Monday night 6:00 Bible Study will include a free pizza dinner, courtesy of Dr. Spellman.  Just show up; no experience is necessary.  Bibles are provided, and no one is pressured to say, do, or be anything.

INTERFAITH BLESSING OF THE WATERS ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21st
Join the Texas State Community as leaders from Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and Native American faiths acknowledge the role of water in their traditions and affirm the need for stewardship of water resources.  Location:  River Systems Institue Conference Room, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.  There will be boats to ferry you from the Salt Grass Restaurant if you want; look to the University Star for more information.

WHERE JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM MEET
Tuesday, February 19 at the LBJ Teaching Theatre, 4th Floor of LBJ Student Center.  Steven School is an Islamic scholar who will address the subject of whether the three faith traditions share a profound kinship or if the clash of theologies is irreconcilable.

BREAD AND BELONGING: What's God up to in your life?
Wednesday nights at 5:30, free supper to follow at 6:15.  This is a great mid-week break and a fine way to recharge your spiritual life.

WINDOWS OF FAITH: A WAY TO REVISIT CONFIRMATION WITHOUT THE PAIN, EMBARRASMENT OR MEMORIZATIONbread
Remember confirmation?  Me neither, except that I hated it.  Only in college did some of what I learned start to be relevant or make sense.  That's why I'm offering Windows of Faith.  It is a great way to rediscover the basics of the faith from an adult perspective.  If you have wanted to figure out what Christianity is about, or would like a refresher on the faith, come to Windows of Faith on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00, starting February 27.  You will not be put on the spot, made to feel dumb, or anything else except WELCOME.  Call 353-1928 or 557-8836 for more information, or visit our website at www.highergroundtxstate.org
