| FILM NIGHT - TONIGHT!
Join us in the Higher Ground Lounge (downstairs at St. Mark's)
for a viewing of "28 Days," starring Sandra Bullock. We'll
have snacks and conversation afterwards about the film, what it has to say to us about ourselves, our relationships and God. That's TONIGHT, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lounge.
FREE DINNER AT PALMER'S
It's good to have a job, it's a blessing to have a calling. What's the difference? A job is how you earn money to support your life. A calling is how you fulfill your life, sometimes even earning money in the process. On Tuesday, February 5th, 6:00 p.m. Representatives of 6 of the 8 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America seminaries will be visiting Higher Ground to meet with students to discuss "callings." They are not interested in meeting just seminary candidates, but any student wanting to explore what God's calling might be. Even better, they will take us to Palmer's and feed us for free! So, if you're interested in how to discern God's calling on your life, or at least in a nice dinner, make a reservation by sending Pastor Jaime an e-mail right away. Space is limited to 12.
ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6...
We'll be joining St. Mark's for the Imposition of Ashes at 6:00 on Wednesday evening. There will be no supper served that night in keeping with the solemn nature of the start of Lent. If you've not participated in an Ash Wednesday service before, you will find this a powerful and meaningful way to observe Lent.
STUDENT/MENTOR RETREAT, FEBRUARY 15-17
Just in time, a great mental-health break comes on February 15-17 as we go on retreat to Camp Lutherhill in LaGrange, Texas. This is a beautiful camp with great facilities (comfy beds, food, restrooms - we're not talking about staying in tents) and a high ropes course for those who dare. We will leave from St. Mark's at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, returning by 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, so there will be plenty of time to study when you get back. Cost: $10. Register at Higher Ground or by sending an e-mail to higherground@txstate.edu
SPRING BREAK, NEW ORLEANS...
