A Quick Read from Higher Ground
An occasional note about important stuff
October 15, 2007

Friends,
I look forward to meeting you soon... Look for me under a tent in the Quad at least once a week in the days ahead.  Stop by and say hi.  In the meantime, here are a few important reminders and some new information...

Bread and Belonging Healing Service
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
bibleIt's not just for the sick, but for anyone stressed about life, relationships, loved ones, the planet, the nations.  Come to the All Saint's Chapel in the basement of St. Mark's Episcopal on Wednesday, October 17th for the first healing service of the year.  The service begins at 5:30; supper will be served at 6:15.  No reservations needed, no previous experience required.  You are welcome, wanted, and cherished by God, so come join us on Wednesday, and don't forget Sunday worship with Holy Communion at 7:00 p.m., another free supper at 6:15.
Celebration of New Ministry - October 21st
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I've been at Higher Ground for over a month already, but I have yet to be officially given the office of campus pastor.  That happens at a regular Sunday evening worship service, but with lots of special music and more.  Consider this an invitation to YOU to come to my service of installation on Sunday, October 21st, 7:00 p.m., with a free supper beforehand at 6:15.
Pumpkin Carving - October 31st
If you want to get in the Halloween groove, but don't want to do the costume thing and are, finally, too old to be trick-or-treating, come join us in helping some little kids have a great Halloween.  St. Mark's is inviting children from the congretation and community to take part in a Halloween party, including pumpkin carving.  Kids and knives are not always a great mix, so your help would be a great joy to them.  We'll probably skip worship and supper that night and do this service in their place, but options will remain open.
"Why is there suffering?"

questionmark
That's the question for this Wednesday's Big Questions conversation at the north end of Jones Dining Hall.  We begin at 11:00 and end at 1:00, but you need not stay any longer than you want.  Five minutes is all you have?  Come by and join the conversation anyway.  And look for us every Wednesday throughout October, same time and place, for conversation about other big questions, such as "What's the deal with God and sex?"  and "What happens after death?"
