"Visions inspire more than nightmares." - Annie Leonard, The Story of Stuff It's easy to get caught up in the negative when communicating about conservation, and reasonably so, given the challenges we face as a conservation community. There is a time and place for negative examples - the shock factor is effective. However, as a community, it is also important to celebrate our individual and collective successes and speak about issues in a way that reaches outside the choir. Inspire. Visual stories have the ability to resonate with the innate connection we have with the wilderness surrounding us. As Annie said, vision can be a more effective route than fear. At iLCP we strive to convene audiences to discuss conservation challenges, create strategies and define tactics for successful campaigns. Online communications platforms act as a virtual soapbox. In the same way that we work with partners in the field on initiatives such as RAVEs and TIMs, we also work with partners in outreach efforts. Two of these partners are The Huffington Post and National Geographic News Watch. iLCP projects and individual photographer projects are highlighted on these outlets weekly. Our website is also a tool for up-to-date communications, be sure to stop by regularly for new blog entries from photographers in the field, new imagery, speaking events, exhibits and more! The quickest way to get news out about iLCP initiatives, iLCP Photographers, Affiliates and Partners is Facebook and Twitter! Communication requires a sender, a message, an intended recipient, and sometimes a loudspeaker. Join the conversation > |
