From the CEO's Desk
The Property Task Group conference call is fast approaching. On October 15 at 6pm you are invited to listen in to the recommendations being considered by the Board for a final decision at the Board's November meeting. As there will likely be hundreds of members on this call, we will ask everyone but the meeting facilitator to keep phones on mute so everyone can hear the presentation of the task group chair, Judy Suddaby.
Shortly before the start of the meeting, a few documents that Judy will be reviewing will be posted on the council's website. While it's not necessary for participants to have these documents, it might be helpful to have the visual to follow along.

Dove's Self Esteem Weekend -- October 5-7
It's that time of year again! Dove's Self Esteem Weekend 2012 will be held on October 5-7. Dove is one of our most valued partners in the realm of building girls' self-esteem and developing girls' leadership skills. The theme of this year's event is "Walk the Talk," and it will focus on the goal of raising confidence (and reducing anxiety) in girls, particularly with regard to beauty. Dove will be kicking off the event with an inspiring live event in NYC. Councils across the nation can replicate this event at the local level with Dove's "Weekend in a Box" kit. These kits, available for free, but in limited quantities, include everything needed to create an inspiring, self-esteem-themed weekend. To order a "Weekend in a Box" kit for your girls, please contact Brynn Whitfield at Brynn.whitfield@edelman.com. Dove hopes to reach 15,000 girls with self-esteem programming by 2015, and we want to make sure all of our girls are included as part of this powerful, unifying weekend.
Also visit the Dove site for a self-esteem toolkit! |
Girl Scout Podcast
Listen to the Girl Media Team's lastest podcast! This month, it's focused on why adult volunteers are so important to girls. Share with potential volunteers, and those needing a reminder of how important their work is to girls. Listen! (All our podcasts can be found on our YouTube channel, and under the GSNYPENN News section of our website. |
Miss Representation
GSNYPENN is cosponsoring the documentary, Miss Representation at Onondaga Community College on November 13, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Members of the Girl Advisory Board have viewed the film as has the council's Board of Directors. We encourage volunteers to attend the November viewing, as well as girls grades 7 and above. Parents should sign permission forms and be told that the film contains explicit language and photos that some may find offensive. Ideally parents and leaders should accompany girls so they can discuss the film afterwards. Flyer. |
