 MINI Coopers Have Arrived at Spring Mountain
Spring Mountain is always looking for ways to expand our repertoire of innovative and fun driving programs for the motorsports enthusiast. That's why we're so excited to announce the formation of a new MINI Cooper Driving Academy at Spring Mountain, in partnership with the renowned MINI Driving Legend - Phil Wicks. With a renewed popularity of cars that are gentle on the environment, affordable and versatile, now more than ever there is no car like the MINI Cooper in the world! For fifty years, the MINI Cooper has been introducing everyday drivers to the experience and thrill of performance handling in a car built for the masses.  And now, Spring Mountain is the permanent home of the best known MINI Cooper Driving Academy in the world, The Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy.
Phil Wicks has been driving MINIs as long as there have been MINI Coopers. For much of the past fifty years, Phil Wicks has been at the forefront of MINI Cooper driving and performance racing. From racing to his stunt driving action for the original "The Italian Job" movie, Phil Wicks is the world renowned expert on MINI Cooper performance driving.

Improve Your Performance with our NEW Driving Tips
In keeping with our commitment to excellence in motorsports and support of the driving and racing  community in general, we are excited to announce a series of Performance Driving Tips written by Club Spring Mountain Charter Member Ken Melgoza. Ken Melgoza is an expert driver and experienced racer who has run the Spring Mountain road course in his Radical SR3 for the past five years with several podium finishes under his belt. If there is any truth to the saying that most of us are visual and a picture is worth a thousand words, Ken's video contributions will make a huge difference in this series. Ken is an expert videographer who has contributed countless track videos to Spring Mountain's online library. We are thrilled to have Ken's expert analysis and seasoned perspective about essential elements of motorsports, which have been written to help you become a better driver.

Chevrolet News & Corvette Happenings
Nearly 200 Corvette enthusiasts from across the country gathered at Spring Mountain's Corvette Track Days  weekend on March 7-8, 2009 to celebrate America's ultimate sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. Drivers were separated into four run groups depending on experience and comfort level, so everyone could experience the capabilities of their Corvettes on Spring Mountain's challenging 3.1-mile road course. The instructors from the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School were on hand all weekend to offer advice or a ride-along if desired. Ken Melgoza, Spring Mountain's videographer and Lindsay Shepard, Spring Mountain's Spokesperson, made the rounds of the facilities throughout the day, interviewing our participants. Race superstar and Spring Mountain representative Ron Fellows was in attendance and he was kind enough to sign autographs and pose for pictures with his fans. We were happy to see that  many of our Sponsors and Partners participate in the event, including Fastline Track Pro, manufacturers of the Audible G-force meter, which guarantees better lap times by providing real time, audible feedback while you're out on the track. It was great to see Reeves Callaway and his son Pete Callaway at the track, along with several members of the Callaway Cars team, developers of powerfully engineered Chevrolet Corvettes built to order. In addition, we welcomed representatives from Mother's Car Care Products and Pfadt Race Engineering to the event. Spring Mountain showcased some very special Corvettes at this event, including our own fleet of ZR1's, and our special edition Pratt Miller C6RS on the track. The Las Vegas Chapter of the SCCA hosted an autocross event on the paddock area that was enjoyed by all who participated.
It was a fun-filled weekend with some fast track times posted by both stock and modified  Corvettes. The Saturday night banquet was held at the exclusive Club Spring Mountain Member Center, featuring a festive Mardi Gras theme, with a fantastic buffet feast prepared by the Pahrump Nugget Hotel & Casino. We would like to thank all of the participants who brought their Corvettes, along with their guests, for making this year's Corvette Track Days a huge success. In addition, we salute all of our generous raffle ticket buyers, who helped contribute over $1,500 for a very worthy cause - Corvettes Conquer Cancer. As always we are grateful for the amazing staff at Spring Mountain, and the Corvette Track Days event team headed by Ellen Delmore, who did a spectacular job of organizing and running this phenomenal event.  Ron Fellows (pictured here with John Morris, CEO and co-owner of Spring Mountain) does more than lend his name to our driving programs. He has been very active in the ZR1 and Level 1 Corvette Driving Schools. In fact, Ron has redesigned some of the course curriculum based on his racing philosophy. Spotlight on Rick Malone- Lead Driving Instructor
Spring Mountain Advanced Motorsports Ranch is honored to work with some of the most  accomplished and dedicated instructors in the industry in our driving school and private instructional programs. Rick Malone, a long-time Las Vegas resident, has been working with Spring Mountain's team for three years, and has recently been named Lead Driving Instructor.
Rick has been passionate about motorsports from the time he could talk. He started competing at the age of 11, racing motocross and winning several championships. From age 15-18 Rick raced off-road cars, and then started racing sub 10 second pro-stock drag motorcycles, holding two West Coast titles.
At the age of 24 Rick made the transition from motorcycles to road racing. He began competing in SCCA and NASA from 1987 - 2001 with several class championships in ITA and American Sedan. Rick has been active in the SCCA, holding several licenses, including Flagging and Communications, Race Director, Race Control and SCCA Driving Instructor. In addition Rick has served other positions in the SCCA such as Race Chairman and Auto Cross Chairman, and has held a National Racing license for 10 years. Rick began as a driving instructor in 1988, and he started professionally in 1990 for many manufacturers and racetracks around the country. Congratulations to Rick on his recent promotion to Lead Driving Instructor at Spring Mountain!
