"The highest degree of charity is to take hold of persons who have been crushed...to find work for them and thus put them on their feet so that they will not be dependent upon others." (Moses Maimonides, 1135-1204) |
FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S DESK |
The summer has seemed to fly by and with Labor Day just around the corner I would like to share with you some exciting new programs we have initiated since our last e-newsletter
As you will read below, JVS recently opened a Career Center providing services to adults diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Center provides hands-on job exploration activities and vocational assessments for its clients. In addition, social skills and job search strategies are taught in small groups or one-on-one. Some of the participants already have been trained and hired by our new Document Imaging and Records Management Bureau.
Currently the third year of our highly successful Career Camp for students age 14 to 21 with ASD is in session. New this summer is an additional Career Camp funded by the Kessler Foundation for young adults 14 to 21 who have physical or cognitive disabilities. I hope you enjoy the photos below from both camps.
The roller coaster stock market and concerns about the economic strength of the global economy and possible double-dip recession has negatively impacted employment numbers. JVS continues to provide much needed job training, counseling, and job seeking strategies to the large number of unemployed or underemployed members of our community. The agency is strengthening its services to a growing number of middle income unemployed mature adults, many of whom, no longer qualify for unemployment and health benefits and are in desperate need of assistance with their job search.
Please use the Quick Link in the righthand column below to access profiles of current job seekers, and, if you know of a job opening or can introduce us to a hiring manager, please let us know.
Every day miracles happen at JVS. We hope you will join us and be a part of the magic by supporting these transformational services through a donation to the agency. Visit our website at www.jvsnj.org and click on DONATE NOW to use our secure, online donation server. Or contact our Development Officer, Eileen Weiss at eweiss@jvsnj.org, 973-674-6330 x 267, to learn more about how your contribution can make such an important difference in the lives of the clients we serve.
We greatly appreciate your continuing friendship and look forward to a meaningful and productive year ahead. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

JVS CAREER COUNSELING AND JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES |
THANK YOU, JVS |
Recently, I found myself in the position of transitioning from being a homemaker for twelve years to trying to find employment. The experience was starting to take its toll. I was fortunate enough to take JVS Job Search workshops. They were great. The workshops were very informative. The staff creates a very supportive and caring, responsive environment for job seekers. Through their advice and warmth they inspire self-confidence and give real concrete lessons regarding job searching/interviewing skills and help keep the determination going. The JVS counselors truly are gems. The workshops provide a haven and make the world seem less bleak for those who might otherwise despair during these difficult economic times. I am grateful for the services your organization provided me. It helped me tremendously. Thank you!
