"The highest degree of charity is to take hold of persons who have been crushed...to find work for them and thus put them on their feet so that they will not be dependent upon others." (Moses Maimonides, 1135-1204)

I want to take the opportunity to once again wish you and your family a healthy, happy and sweet New Year.  As we approach the end of our 70th year of service to the community, JVS staff continue to offer the highest degree of charity to 20,000 needy individuals age 14 - 100+ annually by delivering the highest quality career counseling and job placement assistance, skills training, vocational rehabilitation, eldercare, and health and human services.  JVS clients range from the unskilled single mother receiving public assistance to the highly skilled corporate executive; from the non-English speaking émigré to the recent college graduate; from the high school freshman with autism to the frail elderly woman aging in place, living alone on a fixed income.

As we enter this season of renewal, please consider doing a mitzvah by helping JVS provide critically needed services to members of the MetroWest community who are truly suffering through these challenging economic times.  Please consider volunteering your time, reaching out on behalf of our clients to businesses and professionals you know, and making a tax deductible donation.  To  save a stamp, visit www.jvsnj.org and click on DONATE NOW to make an online donation through our secure server.

Thank you for your interest and for your continuing support.

Garret Reisman

NASA Astronaut Garrett Reisman, who attended Parsippany High School, was a recipient of a JVS Scholarship Loan, which enabled him to complete his post-secondary education.

This year was a particularly difficult year for the JVS Scholarship Loan Program, with loan requests increasing by 25% over last year and available funds decreasing by almost 23%.  Despite the challenges, 41 students received interest-free loans totaling $117,200 for the 2009-2010 academic year, with six students receiving a Belle Shapiro Memorial Grant to pursue their studies in medicine and nursing. To date, more than $2 million has been awarded to nearly 600 students.

To obtain an application for the 2010-2011 academic year or to learn how you can become a supporter of this program, contact Lynne Robbins,
