Connecting the Dots...
Ride the Waves When my mom died 10 years ago, my emotions surged through me with such force that I likened the ups and downs to waves at the beach. Sometimes they were so strong, they overwhelmed me and other times, they lapped at my feet and just reminded me they were there. Looking back over the 6 years of being a business owner, I can see the ebb and flow of my success like waves too. I'd been playing with this thought process for this month's newsletter and couldn't quite connect the dots, until checking Facebook this morning and reading about the death of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple. Reading about his life in the obituary article in the NYTimes.com, a wave of grief hit me hard. Not because I knew him or even that I care much about him, but because he was young and died from the same cancer my mom did. The more I read about him, I was struck at the ebb and flow of his life. It connected the dots for me. Steve Jobs was a visionary who wasn't always successful, but seemed like he was forever moving forward, even as he failed. Success doesn't take a straight path, as everyone knows, it twists and turns. If you have a clear goal in mind, then you stay the course. It may not always be smooth sailing, you just need to ride the waves as they come! When the wind is gone and you're sitting in still waters, you need to keep the faith that a gust will come again!
