Dear Parents,

September has flown by so quickly.  We were busy getting ready for our Open  House/ Orientation on Sunday, September 11th.  Levi and Isaac LaddonLevi and Isacc Laddon wore patriotic shirts which were very appropriate considering what the day meant to so many people.  Rabbi Lawson came to the program and gave a wonderful talk about 9/11.

Movie nightThe night before school officially opened on Saturday, September 17th, Torah School hosted a Back to School Movie Night.  We had over 80 wonderful people attend, eat pizza/pasta/salad and popcorn and watch the movie, Gnomeo and Juliet.  It was a huge success. There will be more movie nights coming up during the year.Lindsay Zimmermann

School opened without any flaws and we were thrilled to welcome new teachers Lindsay Zimmermann (grade 4) and Mike Laddon Michael Laddon(grade 6).  Former Torah School aide, Ryan Inkel, is also taking on a larger role this year as an assistant to first grade teacher, Rachael Ryan InkelDavila, while she teaches Preschool Sunday Morning once a month.

Let me conclude with mentioning our Torah/Hebrew School Committee.  We had our first meeting on Sunday, September 25th.  We had 14 people attend, with 8 of them being first timers.  I was so pleased with the response of this group.  I am looking forward to a fantastic year with wonderful  helpers making the school even better for your children.  It is not too late for you to volunteer.  I can always find something for you to do.

L'Shalom,

Cathy

Hello First Grade Torah School Families,

After a few weeks, we're having a great time.  So good in fact, we run out of time to do all we set out to do!  I can't think of a more fun way to spend a few hours Sunday morning.  You should be receiving my weekly recaps to see what exactly we're doing.  If you aren't, please send me an email so I can add you to our list.

Shanah Tovah!

Shanah Tovah!

In second grade, the focus was on the holidays approaching.  The symbols, the meaning of prayers, foods and traditions.  The students are also learning the Hebrew letters.

Please come to speak to me with any questions regarding our program or your children.

My best wishes for a Shanah Tovah, Morah Shelley!

I am so excited to be teaching the 4th grade Torah class. The children have all acclimated well to me and their fellow peers. We have had so much fun in class with sharing about upcoming holidays, our thoughts and views regarding passages in our new text books and arts and crafts! Last week we did some Israeli dancing, ate apples and honey and started making decorations for Sukkot. I love seeing all the children interacting with one another, and I really like and appreciate how kind and helpful they all are as well.

tzedakahTzedakah Corner

Last year the Temple Emanu El Torah-Hebrew School gave a $3000 gift to the Jewish Federation of San Diego in support of Torahs for Our Troops.

We at the school decided that this would be a wonderful use of our Tzedakah monies.  The Jacobs Family of San Diego are matching our gift on a 1:2 basis, making this even more meaningful.

It is an honor to be able to help our Jewish military service men and women with the gift of a Torah.

Thank you all for contributing to this worthwhile mitzvah!
