Dear Parents,
The Torah/Hebrew School has been especially busy this Spring. We had a lot of fun celebrating Purim. The 4th grade class did a wonderful Mitzvah and made special Shalach Manot packages that looked like giant lollipops. The lollipops were filled with hamentashen and other treats for the 4th grade students at the Monarch School. We have been preparing for Pesach. We have been singing Pesach songs, we have been studying Hebrew in the Haggadah and creating unique items for our Seder tables. Each student made a special Kiddush cup and a beautiful Seder plate to use at their Seder at home. Many thanks to Stephanie Lipschutz, who donated clay, glaze, kiln, her skills and a lot of time to make these Kiddush cups and Seder plates possible. Thanks to Steve Niaman for cutting and donating the wooden Seder Plates. And thanks also to Cecile Fleetwood for her creative help with these projects. We are planning some really fun Sederim on April 10th. Ask your children to tell you all about it. We are eagerly awaiting the return of our fearless leader Cathy Kamin later this month. We appreciate all of the parent participation! Star Laddon

Alef, Betty Erez Bet, Judy Goren Gimel, Freida Grossman Dalet, Shelley Sloan P & B, Elana Hamovitch PSSM, Rachael Davila Recline on your pillows and eat some Matzah--It's Pesach time! This month we'll be learning all about it and making sedar plates for your Passover table. See you soon! Ms. Rachael Check out our Purim Masks! K/1, Lori Bunshaft The kindergarteners are a busy bunch! We all enjoyed learning about Purim and of course eating too many hamentashen. What a fun-filled holiday with many memory making moments! Attending the Purim carnival is one of my first Jewish memories as a child. I enjoyed seeing our class in costume at the carnival and getting into the lively festivities at the Purim Spiel. Please mark your calendars for the family service on April 8th. Our class combined with the 1st graders are working on a few songs to add to the service. Please see the flyer that was sent home this past Sunday. I will send another one home this coming week for those of you who did not receive an announcement. We have already started learning about Passover in preparation for our class seder on April 10th. We are working on a special theme with fun songs and of course the interactive plagues. I wish you and your families a Happy Passover! ~~Miss Lori 1st, Jessica Daniels 2nd, Shelley Sloan

Hi Parents,
This year is going so fast. We have been studying, learning and having fun learning every Sunday. We just finished studying about the importance and customs about Purim. Purim is a fun holiday! Next up, we will be learning about Passover. We celebrate Passover to remember the time when Moses brought the Jews out of slavery from the Pharaoh of Egypt. This is an important time to spend with family while having a Passover Seder (meal). I enjoy spending each Sunday teaching your children. They are very special to me.
Take Care!
B'Shalom,
Lindsay

The kids did a great job doing a mitzvah project for Purim. We still have a few students that need to finish their Hebrew name posters. Passover will be our goal for April.

Hello Parents and 5th Graders,
(yes, please read this together or print and mark on, together.)(KIDS, turn in this page or send an e-reply with record of your discussion FOR A STICKER)
After studying (in 4 groups then sharing with the class) Jerusalem's Old City with it's ethnic quarters and and advertising its attractions, we moved to the New City and began to explore the Knesset and Israel's multi-party parliamentary system.
Then, last week a bomb went off in Jerusalem about a block from the city's central bus terminal, a greater than usual number of rockets exploded in Beersheba and Ashdod, and of course, 12 days prior in the West Bank, the tragedy of the Fogul Family.
Our next lessons, naturally and appropriately, will revolve around current events in Israel. Students have a news article and an email from class 3/27. (Click Here for the document) PLEASE READ TOGETHER AND DISCUSS AND MARK ON THE PAGE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING AND THINKING ABOUT AND SEE THAT IT GETS RETURNED TO CLASS FOR A STICKER. Students are assigned to compose a reply to Ariela and turn in next week or email to me FOR A STICKER.
I encourage you to check the news yourself (jewishworldreview.com and JTA.org are good sites) and continue the discussions at home. The students will need support to help process the details as well as the bigger concepts. And what a great opportunity to speak with your child about this important topic. AND, they'll get A STICKER for EACH parent or grandparent's written input, not signatures only.
As always, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. Barbara@Birenbaums.com
We had a great time in the library today and all the students checked out books with Jewish content, some fiction some non-fiction. Rabbi Lawson and I encourage everyone missed out to make their way into the Temple's library and check out a book. Or perhaps choose a new one from home or another library. Read your books! AND, you'll get A STICKER for all written discussions about the book.
Any sort of creative (or not) book report has been assigned (low pressure) and is due before the last day of school (6/5). The sooner the better to be displayed in the library showcase and maybe in the temple's bulletin.
B'Shalom
Barbara
