Dear Parents,

It is so wonderful to be writing an article for this newsletter again.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their caring and lovely cards and contributions.  I was truly overwhelmed with the outpouring of kindness from all of you.  My hospital room was decorated from top to bottom with cards and pictures from the students.  Thank you to Jordan Doole for his funny homemade card..... "What is the connection between a tree and a dog?  Its bark".  This kept a smile on my face everyday!

I also want to use this space to give a very large thank you to Star Laddon.  Star stepped in and took over my duties from the first day that I was out.  Not only did she do a fantastic job, I came back to find my office in spotless condition.  In fact, I am still looking for some of my messy things that were lying around before I left!!

Please join us for Family Shabbat on Friday, March 11th.  This will be led by the second grade.  We will also have the famous puppet show and Israeli dancing.  Our fun Purim Carnival will be held on Sunday, March 20th.  Drop the kids off at regular time for Torah School and stay around to see the Purim Sphiel, performed by our talented Temple teens.  The carnival will begin afterward at 11:15 (ish).  It should be a terrific day.

One more item:  we are again selling the Promise Haggadah this year.  Our Torah School gets 25% profit of each book sold.  That is a tremendous  help to the school.  Each Haggadah can be personalized with the name of your child, friend or family.  Stop by the office to see a sample of one of these lovely books.  They make such a nice gift for Pesach.

L'shalom,

Cathy

Grab your groggers and practice yelling Boo!  It's Purim time!  We'll be making masks and crowns to wear for Purim.  Though our class meets March 6th, all families are invited to come back for the Purim Carnival on March 20th.

See you soon!

This past month, kindergarten students enjoyed learning and noshing with Rabbi Lawson.  Rabbi Lawson told us about his job as a Rabbi and shared about his family, his hobbies and even told us a few jokes.  I am so proud of the wonderful questions that were asked by all the kindergartners.  A huge THANK YOU to our  kindergarten parents who treated us to a lovely assortment of yummy brunch foods.

Learning about Purim will take place this month.  Purim is always fun to study and of course, the Purim Carnival is a highlight taking place on March 20th.  I love seeing all the creative costumes and of course eating lots of Hamentashen.

I am so grateful for all the Temple Emanu-El Kindergarten Torah School Students and their families.  You all make Sunday mornings a pleasure.

Shalom to second grade parents,

We are very busy every Sunday morning.  We did study about the Jewish symbols, Life cycle, God's gift of the Shabbat, the blessings over food, and now we're studying about Israel: People and places. So, as you can see we are very busy with the interesting and rich program.  Please come and visit us.

Hi Third Grade Parents,

Thank you to those of you who were there for our Family Shabbat.  The class did a great job.  It makes me so proud to see them leading services.  We will be continuing to study a lot each Sunday and we always continue to learn new and exciting things.  We will start to be learning about Purim and Pesach (Passover) since they are right around the corner.  I hope that your students enjoy coming to my class each Sunday because it brightens my day to see each and every one of them.  I hope all is well!

Take Care,

Lindsay

We are in the process of completing our Hebrew name posters.  As usual, I am so impressed by the children's creativity.  During the month of March, our objective will be to make Mishloah Manot, Gift Baskets of Treats, for Purim.

Hello 5th Grade Parents,

I hope everyone is able to join us March 6 at Yachad, along with many other 5th grade religious school classes in San Diego, for a fun- filled community oriented retreat at Ohr Shalom Synagogue. Be sure to sign the permission slip and send it to Cathy by Sunday. There will be a third email from Star with all the details.

We are deep in our study of Jerusalem, concentrating the last two sessions on the Old City and going to the New City next month.

Last week, after student groups 'advertised'  each of the four quarters, individuals 'promoted' each tourist attraction or holy site, we all felt motivated to visit the Old City. We finished our session by writing prayers we'd place in the Western Wall. As I promised the students,  the following link is where they (and you) can type your prayer, send it to Jerusalem, and a student of Aish HaTorah will place it in the wall for you.   http://www.aish.com/w/note/ This website also has a live streaming camera so you can see what's happening at the wall when you log on. Be sure to check the local time (in the lower right corner).

It continues to be a pleasure learning with your children each week, thank you for keeping Torah School attendance a priority.

B'Shalom,

Barbara

Our school goal for the 2010-2011 school year is $1800, We're asking each child to give $18.

When the school reaches it's goal, we'll throw an Ice Cream Party!  Each class that reaches 100% participation will receive a prize!

We'll track our progress here.
