Temple Emanu-El Torah Hebrew School
Rabbi Morton J. Cohn Torah/Hebrew School
Torah-Hebrew School KidsFebruary 2011
Dear Parents,

As you all know, Cathy Kamin had surgery on January 9th, and she is progressing very well.  She is home now and feeling much, much better.  Everyone's emails, cards, flowers and plants have all been very much appreciated.

Cathy will need some time to recover before returning to work. The Torah and Hebrew Schools will continue as they have with parent volunteers, teachers, staff members and senior staff members stepping in to perform Cathy's duties as best we can.

Specifically, Star & Michael Laddon will work in the Torah School office on Sundays with Rabbi Laura Harari coming in approximately once a month to work with our Torah /Hebrew School teachers, as needed.  If there are any concerns or problems with regard to our schools, please contact Susanne Geshekter (susanne@templeemanuelsd.org), and we will attempt to resolve areas of concern in Cathy's absence.

If anyone is interested in volunteering their time to the Torah School on Sundays or the Hebrew School on Mondays or Wednesdays, please contact Star Laddon (star@templeemanuelsd.org) or Susanne Geshekter (susanne@templeemanuelsd.org).

We will continue to update you as to Cathy's progress. Cathy is not accepting visitors, but if you would like to send cards, letters or get well messages, please do so through the Temple office and we will give them to her.

Your well-wishes and concerns are greatly appreciated.
Rabbi Lawson, Temple Emanu-El Board of Directors

Hi Parents!  Our class enjoyed our "Shabbat Box" story so much, we're going to make our own during our February class.  So bring a shoe box and decorations to class.
See you soon!

The Kindergartners have been a busy bunch.  Although there were only two Torah School Sessions in January we managed to cover a lot of learning.  We talked a lot about family celebrations and learned about welcoming in a peaceful 2011 with hand print and rainbow peace doves.  Our class participated in the school wide celebration of Tu B'Shevat.  Each child interacted in learning centers where we danced, learned holiday traditions and of course ate fruits traditional of the holiday.  We even mixed juices to symbolize the holiday and changing seasons.   We are rapidly learning the Hebrew Alphabet with Miss Jessica.  February will be a month of learning about jobs in the Synagogue and what a Rabbi does in preparation for our Breakfast with the Rabbi taking place on February 27th.  In February we will continue working on our enrichment project of making clay fired Kiddush cups.  Torah School Kindergarten is a happy place to be!!!!

Hi Parents,

I know we have had many days off.  I miss seeing your lovely children. We will be having more fun and exciting activities coming up.  We are continuing to learn about the Torah stories through Exodus, about G-d, and different holidays.

REMINDER: 3rd Grade Family Shabbat is on Friday February 11th at 7pm.  Please have students there by 6:30 to go over parts.

Don't forget you can always contact me with questions or concerns!

Take Care,
Lindsay

The Rabbi came to our class for breakfast.  Everyone participated in learning more about Judaism from questions the students asked.

Rabbi and I both had stories to tell about our own experiences with the importance of Martin Luther King Day. Our focus for the next two sessions will be to make our Hebrew name posters.

tzedakahTzedakah Corner
Every year, each class collects Tzedakah for an organization.  This year the TSHS committee decided to give the money raised to several organizations to be announced later.  We are collecting can tabs for Ronald McDonald House too.

Our school goal for the 2010-2011 school year is $1800, We're asking each child to give $18.

When the school reaches it's goal, we'll throw an Ice Cream Party!  Each class that reaches 100% participation will receive a prize!

We'll track our progress here.
