| Connecting the Dots...
Do it! Delete it! or Delegate it! We all deal with Bright Shiny Object Syndrome or Procrastination. There are some tasks that just seem like they need to be done--later. We put them off until we are up against a deadline or the task no longer seems necessary.
While talking with a friend, it struck me that these feelings of putting things off are really messages from the Universe or your inner self! My friend had a consultation with a potential client--full of red flags--messages from her inner self screaming NO! As part of her consultation process she offered a recap report, which she had been putting off for weeks. In a moment of clarity, I told her it was the Universe's way of telling her it wasn't necessary to do. The client wasn't interested in help and probably wouldn't have read the report. While I don't advocate not following up, there is a message here: Follow your instincts!
Try this exercise: Grab a notebook and pen. Do what I call a Brain Dump--think about all your To-Do's, ideas, thoughts and put them on paper. Get them out of your mind! Do the items that jump out at you first. Keep adding items as you think of them...Repeat this exercise as often as necessary.
Take a closer look at items that don't jump at you and continually stay on your list. Ask yourself: Is this necessary to do? If no, DELETE IT! Take it off and never think about it again. If yes, suck it up and do it or DELEGATE IT! There is someone out there who will enjoy doing what you don't--ask any Virtual Assistant!
I hired a colleague to do data entry for one of my clients, because my stack of cards was overflowing. I knew I wouldn't get to it and that wasn't helpful to my client. She is wonderful and the work is getting done!
What is on your To-Do list...Is it a DO, DELETE, or DELEGATE?
