Dear Parents,
I hope that all of you have had a wonderful vacation. I know that both of my daughters got caught in the blizzard in the Northeast. One couldn't get home to New York from Washington D.C. and the other couldn't get out of her apartment in Brooklyn. We ourselves certainly have had wet weather woes to contend with here in San Diego. Hopefully you were able to get some quality family time in and relax a little bit.
Now that we are gearing up for the second half of the school year, we are working on our extra curricular plans to make the year more exciting.
Please note that our Family Shabbat this month has been changed from the second Friday of the month to Friday, Jan. 7th at 7p.m. This will be led by our 4th grade students. This will also be our Camp Newman Shabbat, so make sure to have your children wear their camp shirts (or they can wear their Torah School t-shirts too).
Saturday, Jan. 22nd will be our second annual movie night. This is going to be a fabulous program because we are serving a pizza dinner. The evening will begin at 5:30 with dinner, then Havdalah, dessert and an art project. We will then show the movie Toy Story 3. Popcorn and lemonade will be available during the movie. This whole fantastic package is only $5 per family!!!! Where else can you find a deal like this? Please RSVP to me by email so that I will make sure to have enough food for the evening. Also, I am collecting empty plastic water bottles for the art project. If you have any, please send them this way. They will be put to good use.
Sunday, Jan. 30th is our Community Day of Learning - LIMMUD - at the Jewish Community Center. There will not be classes here at Temple because all of our teachers will be in attendance there. The programs that are being offered are fantastic this year. Everyone is welcome to come and participate in this educational event. They have babysitting for the younger children and classes for the teens. There is a fee to attend, so make sure to check this out at www.ajesd.org and click on LIMMUD.
Please watch your mail for information about the upcoming Tailgate party on Saturday, Feb. 5th here at Temple. We are also going start selling the Promise Haggadah again this for Passover. Information will be coming your way about this also. L'Shalom,
Cathy

2nd, Shelley Sloan 3rd, Lindsay Spector Hi 3rd grade families, I wish you all a Happy New Year and all the best in the coming year! Thank you to those parents who attended our grade's family education program on December 12 it was great seeing you there. It has been a pleasure teaching your lovely children again so far this year. We have been doing some exciting new things with learning about Torah and G-d. I am looking forward to continue learning a lot and doing fun activities! Reminder February is our month for family Shabbat! I hope that you will all attend. Also, if you ever have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to talk to me. 4th, Leslie Friedman
5th, Barbara BirenbaumI hope the students were eager to share our class Hannukah experience with you, imparting the heroic adventures of persecuted Jews throughout history. I was very impressed with their clay productions and I think everyone enjoyed the multi-modality activity. We'll be diving in to the Dead Sea Region this month, but floating around mostly, of course, absorbing the rich mud and then admiring the scenery at Ein Gedi National Park. The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in caves near Qumran may surface at Temple Emanu-El, if we're lucky, and along the way we'll get an insiders view of Masada and the great revolt that ended there 2000 years ago. If your family has photos from experiences at any of these locations, I invite you to send in copies for us to share and post. Hope you all had a Happy New Year! It's time for us to revisit the New Year's Resolutions we wrote at Rosh Hashana time to check on progress; we'll celebrate as well as consider a more active action plan for success. These updates will be recorded in student's notebooks, in case you are interested in participating in the discussion.
