Connecting the Dots...
On average, it takes 7 touches for a sale to occur. -Harvard Law Review
For most small businesses, it isn't just the getting of the client or the sale, it is the distinction of staying top of mind and making connections. In reality it takes as many touches as it takes! That may seem like a lot of extra work to do, especially when you're a small business. However, it may not be as dark a prospect as you might think...Because Connections Matter, I've thought of "7 Ways to Stay in Touch 7 Times". They are:
- Email Marketing/Email
- Personalized Cards and Letters
- Promotional Items and Giveaways
- Phone Calls
- In-Person Meetings, Events, and Networking
- Social Media
- Blogging
When you combine the various tools, staying connected is easy. For example, I am a member of eWomenNetwork San Diego Chapter. We meet once a month. When I go, I'm making touch #1 with new faces and reconnecting with those I already know (In-Person Network Meeting). During our accelerated networking, I am handing out and receiving business cards. When I do my follow ups, that is touch #2, a quick email to say "Nice to meet you." Touch #3 is adding that connection to my monthly newsletter list (Email Marketing). So just in the meeting, I've been able to touch a prospective client 3 times and by staying on my newsletter list, I'll have the opportunity to remind them of what I do each month. Before long, they will have heard from me 7 times.
