Extra Handy Tips!
May 2010
Greetings!

Be a S.T.A.R!

I've always told my kids that school is their job!  Both my kids have earned their school's S.T.A.R. Award for Academics and Citizenship.  Teachers decide each month which student has exemplified the characteristics that are honored.  After Alex won his award, I was walking home and I realized that as business owners we need to strive to be S.T.A.R.s for ourselves and our clients.

Scholarship-Be a continual learner! With technology constantly changing, we business owners need to stay current on programs and tools that will support our businesses.  We should also continue to grow personally and invest in our personal development.  What new skills do you want or need to learn?

Talent-Share your talents with everyone you meet! Each one of us has a unique talent that is our gift to the world!  Become a "Go-Giver" and share yours unconditionally.  What do you do that makes you unique?

Attitude-Keep a positive attitude! A positive attitude gets you much further in life than a negative one. What attitude did you choose when you began your day today?

Responsibility-In business, like in school, responsibility is showing up on time every time, doing your work, paying your bills on time and in full, and following a code of conduct or having ethics.  How do you show your clients/customers that you are responsible?

I once read that all we need to know to be successful in life and business we learned in kindergarten (All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten, by Robert Fulghum).  Again I am learning from my children!

Send Out Cards
The "R" in S.T.A.R. should be Recognition!

At the Send Out Cards Treat 'Em Right seminar a couple of weeks ago, I heard a speaker call himself a "CARD-E-OLOGIST."  I love that!  I took it to mean that one can grow hearts one card at a time.  We were asked to write down one person we instinctively wanted to send a card to.  I couldn't stop at one, I had a list of over 10 people.

Tip: You can send a card for more than just a birthday or special occasion!

Kody Bateman, founder of Send Out Cards, spoke of the words of encouragement his mother often told him.  I came home and sent both of my kids a card, just because.  I shared with them all that they mean to me and how much I love being their mom. It took less than a minute each.

A few days later, the cards arrived!  Ashley usually gets the mail and was so excited to see an envelope for her.  I made her day by taking one minute of my time to recognize her for the great kid that she is.  Who can you recognize today?  I bet you can't stop at one!
