Being Productive Doesn't Just Happen

We all know the importance of planning ahead. Yet how many times do we chide ourselves when things go wrong because we didn't take the necessary time to do some planning? Highly productive days don't just happen when the stars and moon align! They're actually planned.
Starting the night before, pay attention to these details:
- Review tomorrow's calendar. Know what meetings you've got and where and when you'll need to be there.
- Review tomorrow's To Do List. Are you being realistic in what needs to get accomplished?
- Before going to bed, decide what you're going to wear to work tomorrow. If you need to polish shoes or do any ironing or mending, do it before hitting the pillow.
- Plan to eat a healthy breakfast consisting of plenty of protein. Protein is what fuels your body, especially first thing in the morning. High protein options include: Greek yogurt, any kind of meat, some breakfast bars (read the label carefully), and dairy products such as eggs and cheese.
- Make sure your car is gassed up. Making a last minute stop at the gas station will only delay you in getting to work on time.
- Place your keys, cell phone, and briefcase in the same place, every night.
- If you take your lunch, do as much prep the night before as possible.
- Plan on arriving to your desk ten minutes early, allowing time to hang up your coat, get a glass of water and to be fully engaged by start time.
The above list contains things we teach young children to do in getting ready for their school day. Adults are no different. If we want to have a successful day at the office, we need to do a little advance planning ourselves.
